| The 2006 edition of the Rafters Cup began with the biggest blow-out in Game 1 history: Mike and Eric rolled over Andrew and Paul 10-1. In Game 2, Eric and Andrew went up 8-0, only to watch Paul and Mike score 10 points in four hands. Mike's record went to 2-0 after the 10-8 victory, which was the biggest comeback in the "box-score" era. Eric and Paul won Game 3, and all competitors found themselves at 2-1, except for Andrew, who at 0-3 had the worst first half ever. Andrew did go on to have the greatest second half ever, but he was to far behind. The highlight of the second half was Game 5, which Paul had began in 1st place. Paul was so close to winning the Cup he could taste it! Then Mike was euchred 3 times en route to a 10-2 loss to Andrew and Eric. Paul will forever claim the Mike tanked the game (no big surprise, because the months leading up to RC11 had been filled with talk of how tanking Game 5 or 6 could put you in a better position to ultimately win the Cup). Mike will argue that he was simply employing "Magri Style Euchre", an antiquated system long past it's prime. The debate still rages to this day, but the fact remains that after the Game 5 win, Eric was basically assured the Cup Championship. | |||||||||||||||||||
