"All we grow, is what we know!"
Meyer Z-52 Zoysia Plugs
What is Zoysia?
Zoysia grass originated from areas of Southeast Asia, China and Japan.  The Meyer Z-52 variety was introduced as the best grass in America, and has been honorably publicized in the horticultural field. It is a spreading, low growing, heat resistant grass, that is super hardy and easy to establish. Many golf courses and sports fields grow zoysia because of its beautiful carpet-like appearance, superior traffic tolerance and low maintenance.
Zoysia is naturally weed resistant. Healthy zoysia grass is aggressive and chokes out weeds naturally, without harsh chemicals.  Broadly applied weed killers should never be used on Zoysia grass. Herbicides and Weed-and-Feed products actually slow the growth of zoysia making it weaker and more prone to weeds. Zoysia grass is also virtually pest and disease resistant.

Zoysia thrives in hot, sunny conditions when other grasses burn up. Zoysia is salt and drought tolerant as well, needing half the amount of waterings that bluegrass or fescue do. Plus you save on the water bill. Meyer Z-52 is the most winter hardy variety of zoysia. It can be grown further north than most warm season grasses and goes dormant during cold winter months, greening up in early spring. Check here for zone hardiness information.

Zoysia can be grown in virtually any soil. from alkaline to acidic, rocky, sandy or clay. Unlike other grasses that grow from seed, Meyer Z-52 spreads vigorously underground from fiberous rhyzome roots.

Zoysia is tough and repairs itself. Go ahead walk on it, let the kids play on it, let the dog run around. No lawn beats a Zoysia lawn for traffic tolerance. Step on to a Zoysia lawn, and you'll definately notice a difference. Zoysia is dense and thick and 'spreads' vigorously into diveted or worn areas. This is why zoysia is so popular with golf courses and athletic fields. It is easily transplanted from one area to another.

Zoysia saves money. Zoysia is as economical as it is durable. You can stop buying expensive name brand 'weed and feed' fertilizers.  Zoysia needs a simple diet of 13-13-13. Any old brand name will do. Don't be fooled by numbers, weed control promises or fancy packaging.  Most of the 'designer' fertilizers contain herbicides which are bad for zoysia. What may be great for other grasses, can be terrible for a zoysia lawn. As an added money saving bonus, once your zoysia lawn is established, you'll have a constant source of grass that can be easily transplanted from one area to another.

Why Zoysia?
Whether people have transplanted zoysia into their existing yard, or were fortunate enough to move in and have an established zoysia lawn, most people know someone that loves having zoysia. It's no secret that one of the biggest reason Zoysia owners love it, is because
ZOYSIA IS LOW MAINTENANCE!
A Zoysia lawn is hardy and easy to establish.  Not only does it require a fraction of the water and chemical applications that other grass varieties require, it requires a fraction of the mowing as well! You'll spend more time enjoying a beautiful zoysia lawn than working on it.
ENEMIES OF ZOYSIA:
Weed killers weed and feed products, grubs, lawn services.  Beware Many commercial lawn services say they specialize in zoysia maintenance. If you have a lawn service, make sure they do not broadly apply weed killers of any sort. Spot weed treatment is preferred. Lawn service companies are in business to sell you services. Expensive services like aeration and de-thatching are not needed. Zoysia needs to be fertilized once every two months during its growing season, April, June and August.
