MY FAVORITE MUSIC ALBUMS
Tori Amos: Little Earthquakes This album is as good as it gets. From its simple, yet symbolic, cover to its insightful lyrics. I defy anyone to walk away from listening to this album without being affected emotionally. The music is also exceptional, from the the jogging rhythms and racing piano of 'Precious Things', the pensive piano line of 'Silent All These Years', to the backing vocals/strings of songs like 'Little Earthquakes' & 'Winter'. Not a song can be skipped! Don't succumb to chauvenist arrogance about a female piano player (or female musicians)! Check this one out! You will be an instant fan.
Black Crowes: Amorica If you're a fan of any non-glam rock band of the '70s or a fan of more recent fare like Kid Rock then this is a must. It's everything great rock can be: ass-kickin', raunchy, inspired, sweet, beautiful, and original. Just like the now-censored cover, the music is unforgettable. And it's probably one of the greatest non-grunge rock albums of the past 15 years.
Jeff Buckley: Grace If I had to succumb to the agonizing pain of ridding myself of all my CDs for the rest of my life save three, this would definitely be one of those three. The wailing, the guitars, the melodies... so much add up to one of the most beautiful & rockin' albums ever made. Jeff's vocal performance on most of these songs will make your heart ache and your knees weak. Songs like "Last Goodbye" kill me. Others like "Eternal Life" kick ass.
Dave Matthews Band: Before These Crowded Streets 'Under The Table & Dreaming' may be the quintessential DMB album -- and an excellent intro to the band. But this album demonstrated not only the band's jamming-abilities & some of Dave's greatest vocals, but also a darker, less radio-friendly side to the band. Inaccessability isn't always a bad thing and this album is an example of how good it can get. What also should be noted is the multi-cultural (or world) sound of the album, which is displayed here more than any of the band's other studio outings. It's a shame their more recent radio-friendly productions may lead us to never hearing anything like this from them again.

Ani DiFranco: Dilate Ani has made many albums. And, while her live albums are the best way to get to know her as a musician & person, and she's made quite a few good studio albums, Dilate is nearly her best album. It's also one of her most solid albums. While 'Not a Pretty Girl' is probably her quintessential album (& what brought her some fame), Dilate is less aggressive and topical and more personal. Her guitar playing can raise just as many eyebrows as her lyrics on songs like 'Shameless', 'Napoleon', & 'Outta Me, Onto You'. The title song is my favorite of her entire catalogue.
