When Green Day was asked to sign a contract with Reprise Records, a major record company, they weren't sure whether to do it or not. They didn't know how their fans would take it. Some might have been disappointed if they didn't sign, but what about those who wouldn't want them to?
They decided that they were going to do it, and see what happened.
They were called sellouts by many of the fans and other people. Pretty much the town. The fans said that bands didnt usually do that unless they had been playing for a long time. This is why they were called sell outs.
One day, Billie Joe snuck into a club while it was closed, and went into the women's bathroom. That's when he saw what was written on the wall....
It said, "Billie Joe must must die."
He didn't know how to take it, so he wrote a song...
"Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" is probably Green Day's most recognized song they've done, and it earned them a lot of respect. The band couldn't wait until their newest album "Nimrod" was released.
