Of all my characters' relationships, the one between Djinn and Khari is probably the single hardest to define.   This is because their relationship has spanned MILLIONS of years, so there simply isn't an easy way to define it, nor can I account for every phase in a relationship that has existed for that long.
That said, there are some things that I do know.  I know that Djinn and Khari pay more attention to each other than they do to any other genie.  I know that this has always been true.  I know that they've had a child together, and I
think that was before mortals existed.  Certainly it was before mortals became a major force on the planet.  (I should point out that I use the term 'child' loosely.  Their child was 'full-grown' (not that genies grow, really) when he was born.)
I know that Djinn thinks that Khari is too impatient and too reactionary for his own good.  This is probably true.
I know that they haven't seen other for a few hundred years (though they have kept track of each other.)
I know that their relationship doesn't shift the way that mortal relationships do; their perceptions about each other are never changed in an instant.  I know that they are constantly many different, seemingly contradictory things to each other at the same time.
I'm not sure if I'd call them friends or not, but they do care for each other, though not in the same way that mortals care.  It's very, very hard to define. (Genie emotions are... different than human emotions.)  But they can, for example, be both enemies and companions at the same time, not only without one affecting the other, but without there being a contradiction of any sort.
I know that they spend time together.  I know that it is possible for them to do this without them ever being physically or mentally connected.  I don't know how they do it.  (It's a genie thing.)
Khari is more prone to mortal-like emotions than Djinn is, and Djinn finds this unsettling.  Khari would too, if he thought about it.
