Some Public Relation tips for the teachers
1.  Act like Professionals, not spoiled children.  A teacher's union should stike either at the schools, or at the administration building, not at the homes or work places of board members.  While it may be legal, it is not a PROFESSIONAL action.  You lost much community support when you started that behavior.  And know, the public is not stupid.  If it is legal to picket Mrs. Hardaway at her work because it is a public place, then realize we know that you could picket at the Middle School and Newton Elementary if you wanted.  We know the only reason you do not picket there is the unseen remoteness of the location, not that you are not allowed there (public place--remember).  Remember too, that individual's homes are NOT public places.  I'm sure the police will be called if you use that childish ploy.

2.  The normal school day is from 8 am to 3 pm.  If you must march, it would be nice to see you out there for the whole time.  You have been the butt of many jokes for packing it up everyday before lunch time.  Remember the proud Union days of old, when picketers would be out--in ANY weather 24/7 to get their point out.  Show some backbone and pride.  And, why do many of you cover your faces when the paper and TV cameras are on?  Ashamed?

3.  Hold closed ballets to end the percieved peer preasure.  The general public truely believes that the open vote system you use is corrupt and invalid.  To end this belief (or the actual corruption) use a closed vote system like the rest of the nation uses for its elections and decisions.  Even the children you teach use a closed vote when deciding class officers--get with it!!  And what is this no show is the same as a no vote idea.  It sounds suspicious to the public.

4.  Know that the strike is only a minor inconvience to the parents, and we blame you for it, not the board.  Many families now just plan their vacations for Labor Day week because we know you will strike.  We've come to excpect it, and it is driving families into the District's camp, not yours.

5.  Be an example to the children of Class, not Greed.  It is part of your job to teach the children not to give in to peer pressure about drugs, sex, and many other topics.  Why then do the majority of you go along with the peer pressure of the Union's open votes?  Remember, kids learn by example, and they are watching you, and are ashamed.

6.  Realize that Health Care is now a nationwide crisis.  Saddly, times change and sometimes cutbacks are required.  Cost of your health plan has gone up over 70% in the last 3 years.  Why should you recieve better benfits than those that employ you? (the taxpayers) We all co-pay our insurance--it is a fact of the times.  Accept it and come into the real world.  We will welcome you.

More Tips will be added as time allows.
