The first year in the competition was shaky, as the Eels struggled to adapt to the touch football style of play. Few tries were scored, but even less were let in. The season ended with a minor premiership in the name of the Eels, but a disappointing finals campaign saw the team failing to make the Grand Final.
Movements in the off-season saw a number of changes in the club, David Chalmers, Angus McLean and Matt Topham all taking up more lucrative contracts overseas, while Ben Schulz retired from the game. The Minister, Stu Mitchell also came off contract at the end of the season, and successfully negotiated with the club a match payments contract. |
