      Be it known to all men, that on the twenty fourth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight, before me, the undersigned Martin Sheppard, Notary Public, duly admitted and sworn for the Province of Lower Canada, and in the presence of the witnesses, in the County of Bonaventure, in the District and Province aforesaid, personally came Alexander Mavor, chief surviving officer of the barque or vessel called the Colborne of London, stranded and wrecked at or near the place called Harrington Cove near Port Daniel, in presence of us, Martin Sheppard, Notary Public and the witnesses, acknowledged and declared to have made, named, ordained, authorized, constituted and appointed and by these presents doth acknowledge, name, ordain, authorize, constitute, nominate and appoint in his place and stead Robert Willy Hitton of New Carlisle, in the District and Province aforesaid.
    And as duly named representative of the owners of the said vessel, for him and in his name as representative as aforesaid, to receive and place in safe custody and keeping, the tackle and other materials belonging to the said vessel as such part of the cargo on board of her which has now been saved or may hereafter be saved from the said vessel so stranded as aforesaid and to sell and dispose of the same for the best price that can be got for the same, and thereupon, if need be, to sign and execute a bill or bills of sale, assignment or other deeds and writings, for perfecting and confirming the sale thereof, as the law may require or may in that behalf be necessary.
    And upon receipt of the money which the said presents or any part thereof, shall be sold for, to give sufficient receipts and discharges for the same and to do all matters and things in and about the premises, as fully and effectually in all intent and purposes whatsoever as be, the said Alexander Mavor, in his said quality, might or could do if personally present.
    Hereby ratifying, allowing and confirming and agree to ratify, allow and confirming all and whatever the said Alexander Mavor Robert Willy Hitton and William McPherson might shall do, or cause to be done, under and by virtue of these presents.
    Thus done and passed at Port Daniel aforesaid on the day and in the month and year herein first above written, and signed by the said Alexander Mavor, acting as aforesaid in the presence of William Miller of Port Daniel in

N.B. Three words struck out are null, one marginal note approved good.
