The 2003 Summer Grandslam was, it has to be said, approached with something of an ambivalent attitude by most senior Gravesend students taking part. Having committed ourselves to doing two demonstrations in the town centre it would be unthinkable for us as Kyokushin to deliver anything other than a first class performance. But the highly commercial nature of the whole event and the saturation of various martial arts groups, most of whom had some connection with eachother, could have been demoralising to a lesser group. Undeterred as ever, Gravesend Kyokushin Dojo let it's actions do the talking. Good, strong, exciting karate was what was delivered and the crowd gave a rousing applause unprompted. It was what we are known for, no gimmicks, no tricks and no nonsense. The breaking demonstrations were straightforward yet very impressive, the basics and kata were tight, and the fighting was as close to real as is possible to get, and the 'woos' and 'aahs' from the spectators were clearly audible, again no prompting was necessary. A great deal of satisfaction was taken by all of us who took part, it is great to know that our professionalism can carry us through any situation and not let us down. Well done to all that took part. Osu! Check out the clips on the video page (link on the left) and check the photos below! |
