Currently on Grand River Reunion 2003....
[30 Apr 2003] The idea for a Grand River Reunion was borne after three cousins thought of ways to get everyone together for their Grandmother's 90's birthday party in June 2003. Cyndi Meaney (St. John's, Newfoundland), Pam Boltz (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Tony Urquhart (Edmonton, Alberta) were the three grandchildren of Catherine (Kaye) Urquhart (nee Matheson) visiting in Grand River when the idea took shape. Over supper in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Pam and Tony brought their cousin Cathie MacIntosh in on the plan. Cathie emailed a few more cousins, her mother, Jean Urquhart made a few phone calls, a few people replied, and voila! A Reunion is planned.The most important part of any reunion is the PEOPLE. Currently, we are trying to contact the descendants of Donald John and Ellen Matheson AND the descendants of Alexander Urquhart and Katherine Finlayson. If you have name, phone number, mailing address or email address of any of these descendants (if you are looking at this page, then that probably includes YOU!), pass it along to [email protected] and we'll make sure they're included.
We have a date! The Weekend of August 8th - 10th has been chosen for our first reunion. Arriving at this date was not easy and it was not chosen at random. This is the weekend of Grand River Days and hopefully the two events will enhance each other! We don't have many details yet, but be prepared to arrive Friday night for a Wine & Cheese Party at the Matheson Residence on the West side of Grand River, hosted by Ellen Bell and Glenda MacCormack. A day at the beautiful Point Michaud beach is expected, so pack your beach gear! With any luck, we'll overflow the church on Sunday with a special dedication to those family members who have passed on. Keep the ideas coming and check back often to see what others have suggested.
