| Title: Kornvana Topic: Korn, the new age Nirvana? Rant: When you read this topic you may look at me funny and say to your self "what the hell?? Is this guy fucking insane? They're not alike at all!!" and your right!! They're music really aint nothing alike. But what makes them similar is what the two bands have done for rock, more spicifically, alternative rock. Before Nirvana, alternative rock was getting close to no attention, every thing was focused on pop, and hair metal. even worst, just before Nirvana came along, even the hair metal was fading, so pop was dominant. When main stream came to Nirvana, they shoocked the world with such a differnt and fresh sound, it started a trend of wannabe bands, had a fan base that was unimaginable, and even brought a name for this new flow of alternative rock called "Grunge". Nirvana was, and still is, a huge inspiration to rock music today. Before Korn came to the rock scean, main stream music was in even worst condition then what was before Nirvana. Pop and rap was ruling with an iron fist. There was a few scattered RATM, or Chilli peper singles here and there, but not enough to call it a "rock scean". Korn came out with Blind, Shoots and Ladders, and Adidas. With those songs, they made it huge, and won multiple awards for their albums,"Korn" and "Life is peachy". The two albums went platinum several times, and more impotantly, brought attention to alternative rock once again, but thats just the begining. Follow the leader maybe the most imporant album in today's alternative rock. With it's singles "Got the life" and "Freak on the leash" they have brought an attraction for alternative rock surpassed only by Nirvana's "Nevermind". Like in the Nirvana days, Korn brought out a mass of wannabe bands, have a fan base that's larger then all the armys combined, got alternative rock back on the air, and had gotten this new trend of alternative rock a new name, and that name is "Nu metal" If you still can't see how they relate, here is a recap: 1. Both bands brought Alternative rock reconition 2. Both bands had an a giant fan base 3. Both bands started a train of wannabe bands 4. Both bands are a huge influence on Rock music 5. Both bands brought a name to they're age in alternative rock That is just SOME reasons why they are similar. One more thing that I have left out. When Nirvana was at the end of their era, the public and rock bands were getting sick of the label "Grunge" and did'nt want any thing to do with it. If you have'nt noticed, latley people have started to deny that they listen to "Nu Metal" , and bands are denying that they're a "Nu Metal" band. Also, some say these maybe Korns last days. Do you see a connnection? Title: Musical posers Topic: Posers of the music community Rant: I hear alot of people in the music community calling other people fakes, idiots, posers, or what ever, just because the other people listens to differnt music, or has a differnt view on it then those who taunt them. For example, some one called me immature cause i listens to Korn. They said that Korn is a kids band. I asked, How dose it make me immature? and how are Korn a kids band? The only answer this person gave me was "i used to like korn when i was in gr.7, but i grew out of it. every one dose" 1st of all. good for you, and plus, your not every one. Lets get this one thing straight, music is like colors. There is no wrong of right color, differnt people like differnt colors, and arguing what color is the best is 100% stupid. Both colors and music is all about personal perfferances. As long as you enjoy your music, and your not saying that you like a song or a band just to fit in, your 100% non poser. If you can continue loving your music, despit how others bash it, or bash you for liking it, your are a TRUE FAN OF YOUR OWN MUSIC. Title: Console wars Topic: Which console is really the best? Rant: With three consles on the market, and each one having their own escpetional games and features to call their own, which one do you choose? Too help you dicide, here's a compareison of each one. Price (Can): $309.52 $301.93 $233.14 Now with the info above, im sure it'll help you dicide just which one is better, but if you would like to have a second opinion, here is what I think: I think the PS2 is way ahead of other two. The biggest factor is games when your deciding on what console to get, and the PS2 has more then twice the ammount of games then both the GameCube and the X-Box combined. The PS2 being in the market longer then the other 2, has developed a larger fan base, with game developers already under it's belt, while the other competing Consoles are still struggling with both of these factors, also If you look at any top 10 console game list, I asure you, half of the list will consist of PS2 games. Games are huge factor when deciding which console to get, but not the only, features and accesories also play a role too. When your speaking features, the GameCube losses out big time, though GameCube is an awesome machine, it is strictly a gaming console with very little else to offer. The PS2, and the X-Box features a great DVD and CD player, and are both great gaming consoles in their own rights. The PS2 has an upperhand in features though, working as a double gaming system, it can play both PS2 and PSone games, with the ability to load PSone games faster and hightening it's resolution. The X-Box is'nt with out it's own share of secret weapons. The X-Box live, it's Internet hookup, maybe it's biggest feature. Though the PS2 has a internet addaptor out that you can buy for around 45$ the X-Box live is already built into the X-Box, and all it takes a one time fee to activate it. It is also much more user friendly then the PS2's Internet hook up, even online, the X-Box live runs faster, more smoothly, and with less bugs the the PS2's Internet. While The PS2 and the X-Box are wowing their audience with incredible features, the GameCube is wowing their's in it's own way. The GameCube, lacking in features, more then make it up with possibly the best graphics and sound to have ever grace any console in history. With games like Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil Zero, Metroid Prime, and Mario Sunshine, the graphics are litterly GCI quility. (CGI: Computer Generated Images. Like the ones found in the Final fantasy Movie, or Jarasic Park). The sound in all GameCube games are always sharp and CD quility. Not just sound and graphics, the GameCube also features a great price! With both the X-Box and the PS2 selling for over $300, the GameCube is less then $250. But in the end, in my opinion the Playstation 2 still holds the top spot for gameing. With the game count of over 1000, compared to the GameCubes 300, or the X-Box's 200 it blows both consoles out of the water. Also, with the PS2's huge fan base, and deleloper support, it's the one console that you can bet that will not be eliminated from this console war. Title: There's some thing on your face. Oops, your fired. Topic: Tattoos , dyes, and peircings at the work place Rant: It is ridiculous that some people are fired, or can't get a job because they have peircings, tattoos, or has their hair dyed. What's they're reason?? "it'll scare away our customers", "It's bad for buisness", "it's agienst regulations". Thats all bull shit, because stitistics shows that tattoos, peiceings, or hair dye has never impacted sales in any way negitive. Whats their real reason?? I'll tell you, it's because the employers are ignorant, and fear what's differnt. These employers don't realize that, not every one think alike. These body artist love what they do, it's their belief that it's normal, and its beautiful. No one has the right to tell them it's not. It's like a religoin. A christian can't go around telling buddist that they're beliefs are ugly and unproper, it's not right for an hindu to tell a muslum to change their ways because it's wrong. So telling a person with tattoos that he can't get the job is exactly like telling a person cannot get the job because he or she is Jewish. It's wrong, and it against the law, just like how telling a body artist they can't get the job because of he/she has tats, or peircings should also be. |
