Dad continued working for the Chicago Fire Department and had a part-time job driving a truck.  Sometimes the family got a chance to take a ride in the truck and go with dad on deliveries.  This was especially fun if one of the deliveries was to "Tastee Freeze".  Mom was a full-time-stay-at-home mom, always there to give us a hot lunch in the afternoon and to put a band-aid on our "boo-boos".
Sometime around 1954 or 1955, with the help of Uncle Jim Tort, the family moved to 7020 S Honore, "the bungalow".  This was the house that Dad grew up in.  The bungalow was a really neat old house, with a nice shady front porch and a full basement.  In the summertime, when the weather was hot, we would set up living quarters in the basement.  It was really fun, kind of like being on vacation in your own house.  And, Honore St was a great place to grow up.  We played baseball in the street, the same street our parents carved their names in when they were kids.

First new car, 1957 Ford
Mom & Dad's first brand new car  was a 1957 Ford station wagon.  What a blast we had in that car!  Long rides on warm summer evenings, day trips to Michigan and the Indiana Dunes and family vacations around Lake Michigan.  Sometimes all the neighborhood kids would pile in and we would spend the day at the ballpark.
