where his mother was confined. Upon meeting, he then explained the reason for stealing the mirror, saying that it is the only way to save his mother's life. As he was about to place his hand in the mirror to make a wish, Yusuke intervened and insisted on giving up his own life instead. And so his wish, Shiori became well again, but since their intention was to do good, neither Yusuke's life nor Shuichi was taken. But as a punishment for stealing the mirror, Shuichi must work as a rei kai tantei of the spirit world and help Yusuke fulfill his missions.

His main weapon, the rose whip, is so deadly that it can slice just about everything to pieces. He also has the power to use any plants as a weapon, turning them into killer plant monsters.
Another part of Shuichi's life is a girl named Katajima Maya. Maya has the ability to see demons and other unearthly beings. She fell in love with Shuichi although she knew tha t he was not an ordinary human being. She was kidnapped by some Youkai and fortunately was saved by Shuichi and Hiei. This is also the part where Shuichi and Hiei met and become allies . After that incident, Shuichi erased the Maya's memory of what happened to her.
