Chapter 4

In the car, Jade placed an important call to her office. Betty, get the out of state files. Im placing this baby with a family no where near Port Charles. It was the only thing she could do. Usually, the only reason shed consider taking such drastic measures is if she thought there was a chance the biological mother would run into the adoptive family. In this case, most of the town knew Georgie and Dillon; placing their baby in town, with someone unknown, would be very difficult.

Betty agreed and then dropped a bomb. Mrs. Smith called. She said shed be taking care of Alyssa for you. Something about a personal issue that needed to be discussed.

Emilys at my house? Right now? Jade asked, knowing that if Zander had angered her by asking Jade for her help before talking to Emily, she had a long night ahead of her.

Yes, and Ms. Cassadine, she didnt sound happy. Betty knew Emily hated Jade. Everyone in town knew. Id be careful if I were you.

Thanks, Betty, Jade said as she entered Port Charles. Go ahead and fax over the out of state files, and the biological mothers that have yet to pick families to adopt. Mrs. Smith might be interested in seeing those.

Georgie and Dillon were having their first fight since leaving Port Charles. You cant expect me to jump all over that idea! She couldnt believe what he was suggesting.

Shes your sister! Maxie could really help you during this. Dillon said, trying to convince her to let Jade tell her sister. He was becoming less enthusiastic about giving the baby up and he thought that Maxie might be a strong ally.

Maxie would love this! Shed tell Mac as soon as Jade had the words out of her mouth. Georgie felt irritable, tired, and still a little nauseous. Please, can we drop the subject?

For tonight, usually Dillon was reasonable, and it irritated her even more that he didnt seem to want to listen to her. Go sit down and Ill make some dinner.

Georgie sighed and sat down on the couch. She loved Dillon, really, but lately she hadnt felt like herself. She knew that her body was going through several changes, but Georgie wasnt sure she could live the entire pregnancy not knowing how shed feel from one moment to the next.

Did you give my earlier question anymore thought? Dillon asked.

About moving to Europe? Georgie asked and he nodded. Why?

Jade seems to think that this other couple would be perfect, but for some reason, she doesnt want to give them our baby. I have no idea who she could be thinking of, but if we were to make a clean break from Port Charles, the baby could have a good life with a good family

But you promised wed go back home Georgie said, hating herself for becoming so emotional. Im sorry

Its okay. Its hormones. Dillon smiled. Think about it.

Georgie nodded. I will, she promised, hoping that after a good nights rest, she would feel more like her old self.

Jade walked in and saw Emily rocking her five month old daughter. Hi, Emily. Jade said, trying to keep her voice even.

I envy you, Emily said, fighting tears. She and Zander had had a huge fight after he told her about seeing Jade. Hed walked out after calling her a cry baby. It had angered her that hed turned to his ex lover again in need of comfort. True, Jade hadnt offered anything physical, but Emily still feared that the relationship would go back to what it was. You are still able to have a baby, feel the baby inside you

Emily, Im sorry. Believe it or not, I really am. I told Zander that Id help you two in any way that I can. I have my secretary faxing over some possible matches

Emily set the sleeping baby in her basset net. Why?

Why what? Jade asked, knowing where the conversation was heading.

Are you doing this for me? Zander and me? Or is this a way to get on Zanders good side?

Jade took her shoes off and pulled her hair from the French braid she normally wore on hot days. Emily, Zander asked me to be his attorney. Most of the time, I handle adoptions, occasionally, family court, for Zander, because Alexis is no longer practicing, I handle any and everything. He asked me to help the two of you find a baby. Im helping you. As a family. Plus, its not fair that you of all people cant. She stopped and Emily understood. I want to help both of you, Emily.
