�Surprise her?� Jade stood up, and Zander noticed that her clothes were actually looser than before she�d had Alyssa. �You can�t just bring home a baby and say �Hi Honey, I picked up the light bulbs, and oh look, a baby!� No, Zander, it does not work like that.�
�She doesn�t even know if she can have a baby.� He explained that the experimental drugs she�d taken for her cancer may have caused some permanent damage. �She wants children more than anything��
�Have you mentioned adoption?� Jade asked, feeling guilty for the one night she and Zander had shared and the precious gift they received. �I�m sorry, Zander. I see you with Alyssa and I know that you�re a great father. Emily�s good with her too��
�Help us, please.� Zander said, �Please. Find us a baby and then I�ll tell her.�
Jade bit her lip and shook her head. �Not until you tell her. Bring her in tomorrow. We�ll talk.� She remembered the couple she was meeting tomorrow afternoon. �Actually, let�s make it Thursday. I�m meeting a couple of teenagers tomorrow, and I have a good feeling about them.�
Zander smiled and shook his head. It was hard to imagine that Jade was only twenty four. She�d graduated high school at fifteen and went on to college before most of their friends passed Spanish class. �I always knew that $10 would come in handy.� He teased.
�Get out of here! And tell Emily!� She reminded him.
Pausing at the door, Zander turned around, �Thank you, Jade.�
Jade nodded and watched him leave. She would always care for him, and she couldn�t imagine her life without Alyssa. The time since her birth had taught Jade so much and she wanted to help Emily to know that feeling. Seeing the file on her desk, she realized that this might be an easier task than she�d first thought.
