| Chapter 4 "Hello?" I heard my mom say as her voice filled my ears with a familiarity that I hadn't felt in a long time. "Hey, mom." I didn't really know what to say or how to start this conversation off. "Hey Georgie, how are you? How's Maxie? Is anything wrong?" She asked concerned. "Nothing is wrong, we're both fine. How are you doing?" "I am doing alright, I really miss you guys." She said sadly. "I miss you too, we both do. How is Nanna?" "She is doing pretty good. Was there a reason you called, or did you just want to talk?" She sounded so warn out. "Both, kind of. You know how I told you about Dillon, right?" I had talked to her on the phone numerous times since she has left and lately Dillon was all I would talk about. "It would be hard for me to forget, why?" She asked as she laughed. At first she really didn't like Dillon but that was because of all of the bad things that Mac had told her. But I had talked to her one day for about 3 hours about how Dillon was the nicest guy I have ever met and how what Mac said wasn't totally right, that he was exagerating. She wasn't thrilled because of his being in trouble so much but she was ok with it once I promised her that he was done with getting into trouble. "Well I just really want you to meet him. And he really wants to meet you too." I said as I looked around my room. I guess you could call it is a typical teenagers room. Magazines, CD's, clothes and papers were laying randomly on my furniture and some on the floor. I had a giant cork board that hung above my night stand, where I was sitting that had tons of pictures covering every inch of it's surface. This one had all kinds of pictures of Dillon and I. I also had two more cork boards covered in pictures on my other walls and a floor to ceiling message board on either side of my door. Maxie had helped me decorate my room and we thought the message boards were a cool addition because whenever I wasn't home if I got a phone call or got mail they would stick it right on there for me to see as soon as I walked into my room. We had even went to a local paint store and bought this special type of paint called 'chalk paint'. It is exactly like paint, and you put it on as you would regular paint but when it dries it leave the look and texture of a chalk board. We painted a whole half of my wall with it and I had also bought chalk in all different colors. Needless to say it didn't take very long for it to fill up with little messages, drawing and saying that people would write on it when they were in my room. Dillon had drawn a picture on it with stick people, one had outrageously spikey hair and the other had shoulder-length brown hair. He said it was a picture of us, an authentic one that you couldn't get with a camera, and I never erased it. "I will, but I am not sure when, honey. You know I have to take care of Nanna." She said as she covered her hand over the phone but I could still hear her talking. Her voice was muffled but I could make something out about dinner and spaghetti. "Can you come home for a little while?" I asked rather quickly. I tried not to sound to eager but I failed miserably. "Umm I might be able to, why is there something wrong that you aren't telling me about Georgie?" She asked, her voice stern yet non-authorative at the same time. "I just need to talk to you and Mac and I don't want to tell you over the phone and I don't want to tell you two seperatly." I said not knowing exactly how to explain it. "Well I can get someone to stay with Nanna for a couple days but I won't be able to make it for about a month. Things are getting really hectic here. Nanna has a lot of doctors appointments and I just need a little time before I can make it back home. I won't be able to stay for long" She said. I could tell she was disappointed that she wasn't able to be here when I needed her and that she couldn't just drop what she was doing and come home. And I felt terrible about making her feel that way. "Ok, I can wait until then, if you can only be here for one day then that is all I need." I said knowing that by then I would no doubt be showing and it would be hard to hide it, but if I had to stay up in my room for the next month I would. "Are you sure everything is alright. You don't sound like it, and your voice sound worried." She always could read me like a book. "No, I just need you to get here as soon as you can. I got to go, Mac is making dinner." I said trying to end this before she got me to tell her everything right now. "Ok tell Maxie and Mac that I said 'hi' and I love them. Georgie I can tell that something is wrong, all I am asking is that you take care of yourself." The realization of what she had just said hit me with the force of a Mack truck. Her words hit to close to what Dillon had just said to me not an hour ago. It was as if she knew but didn't know at the same time. "I will, I love you mom." I said as I felt like I was going to cry. "I love you too." I heard her say just before the phone clicked over. I hung up the phone and took a deep breath |
