The developement of Great Pines continued at a slow pace because the infrastructure was being done at the same time as the houses. It appeared that the cash flow from the houses was being used to finance the roads, water, sewer, etc. The construction schedule that Ace had in mind was not shared by the builder, RC Construction. Robert Cross and his crew would work from 7:30am until 3:30pm Monday through Thursday and until noon on Friday. Construction on the houses was further slowed from January to April because of the heavy amount of snow. Every day Julie and I would shovel out our house so they could pound nails.

With Ace continually leaning on Robert to pick up the pace it wasn't too much of a surprise that Robert quit. Another builder was brought in but he lasted less than a month. The third builder stayed.

The first house to change ownership was done before the house was built. The Orrs started it but unfortunately he died suddenly and Mrs. Orr, understandably, decided not to move. Jack and Peggy Munson became our new neighbors.

This sign and a little garden were put in place this fall.

When our lot was cleared in September 2002 our "move in' date was March 2003. That was delayed first until April and then finally Memorial Day. We told Ace that our mover was scheduled for June 3 and it couldn't be changed, he asked that we make it after lunch. When the mover arrived the builder was still cleaning up.

At the end of April it appeared they were making good progress

Most of the landscaping, but not driveway, was done by the
end of July. July 2003
The rest of Conifer Lane was finally graded in July so it could
be paved. July 2003

They paved my driveway after the road. This helped keep the dust down. August 2003

The first five homes to be occupied during the first half of 2003 were Kren, Luby, Sweeny, Schauff, and Woodger in that order. Everybody, Bob and Betty Kren, Dietrich and Ellen Schauff, Tom and Joan Sweeney, George and Betty Luby, and Kent and Julie Woodger, got together for a house tour on September 7th. It started with drinks at the Luby's, dinner at the Schauff's and ended with dessert at the Sweeney's. It was agreed that the Great Pines neighbors are a good and convivial group. Since that evening Bruce Hudson and Renata Kammler have moved into their house on the cul-de-sac (for weekends, anyway). The next house to be completed will be for Julianne and Jean Pierre Gachelin. We all look forward to having them as neighbors.
Bob and Betty Kren were the first to move in.
George and Betty Luby were next.
Then Tom and Joan Sweeny.
The fourth family was Dietrich and Ellen Schauff.
We were the fifth and last for a while.
Here is the group for our first neighborhood party.
