Access to the Baths After the meeting arranged by Mohammad Sarwar with local politicians we wrote seeking formal access to the baths. Surprisingly, the Director refused access to the board and so we wrote seeking for this to be changed. We are happy to report he did so and the correspondence is shown here Baths, Politics and the Election We have had a message from the London Pools Campiagn, as shown below. Campiagns to save local pools are gathering pace and appearing in several parts of the country. We are linking with the London Campiagn and hope to organise an collaborative event later this year which will incorporate the Victoria Baths Campiagn and others. The address for contacting this campiagn is shown at the end. Dear Pool Campiagner, We are trying to gather information about the effect of pool campiagns on local and national elections. We know of three council by-election results very recently in London that have been affected by the threatened/continued closure of a pool - and the case of the last main council election where the Guardian reported "Donald Anderson, MP for Swansea, admitted the loss of his city was totally unexpected, but blamed the closure of a civic swimming pool". We wondered if you knew of any other cases where a pool campiagn has been a central issue during an election - local or national - and particularly where it may have had an impact on the result? Thanks a lot for your help, will circulate the outcome of this. All best wishes, Liz Hughes |
