What key people have said in recent letters to the Trust Margaret Curran, Communities Minister (in a reply on her behalf from the Scottish Executive Education Department Sport and Co-ordination Division) writes; “the restoration of this facility would certainly compliment the Executive’s current initiatives on providing quality leisure facilities that are accessible to the wider community at an affordable cost” (28th September 2004) The National Health Service, South
East Glasgow has said it; “Would be happy to support the
Trust and would welcome the opportunity to explore further health promoting”
uses for the building (1st October 2004). Mohammad Sarwar MP writes; “The community involvement you are planning in initiating is welcome and I wish you well in this process” (31st August 2004) Robert Brown MSP writes; I am very glad to support your proposed work and in this connection wish you success in it. I suspect that you will require a number of sources of funding to enable anything to proceed and I note that you are approaching a number of funding bodies. If I can be of any help in that connection please let me know. (3rd September 2004) Gordon Jackson MSP writes; I am certainly happy to give you my support, I do feel strongly about restoring and maintaining historic buildings through our cities and any move in that particular direction is one I personally very much welcome (26th August 2004) Sandra White (MSP) “In particular I am pleased to note that the health of the people of the south side is paramount in the Trust’s thinking as this aspect is all too often given lip service only. I will be only too please to help promote your organisation's aims and to contribute effort politically and for purposes of achieving sufficient funding to transform the baths into the kind of facility which the local people would wish. I wish the Govanhill baths trust every” success” (25th August 2004) Keith Baldassara, Councillor Glasgow City Council, If the Trust wished to reinstate the Baths as a resource for the local community then I give that my full support. Obviously if the building could be modernised/redeveloped internally this would make it far more accessible for the wider community. I hope that this re-assures you of my full support. (18th November 2004). Alan Pert, Chief Architect at Nord Architects, Glasgow (commissioned artcitects for this project who were also architects to the Tramway project in Glasgow) says in a formal meeting with steering group members: This is an extremely exciting community based project that fulfills all of the initiatives being set out by government and many other agencies in regard to the provision of sports, recreational, health and social cohesion community based projects. This cherished Edwardian building is a local and city landmark which is eminently suitable for preservation and restoration for these purposes. We are most delighted to be involved with the furtherance of the objectives of the Trust which we have seen and considered carefully in our thinking and planning to date. We are now in the process of drawing up detailed plans in collaboration with the steering group. (2nd December 2004) . |
