Some exampls of maile covered glassware. These always seem to be very popular items. It depends a bit on shape, but most glasses or botles can be covered in this way. The top picture show some different designed wine gasses in a full service of glasses. I know the deatail is a bit obscured, but the bottle below is covered all around with a hexmaile pattern.

This is a favorite, personal item. It is a lamp shade made with galvanized steel links. They rings are very large for the wire gauge, making it very light weight and open. As you can see I have decorated mine with glow in the dark spiders. Two large welded rings provide the support that keeps the shape. Sizing this item depends on the large rings primarily, however it could be made to fit almost any lamp, and with a variety of shade shapes.

Another design that could be taken a lot of places. This large, welded ring has a complete covering of 4-1. The reason for doing this is, if you attached the chains right to the ring, gravity would just pull them all to the bottom (in most cases). Though the pattern can be rotated, it keeps its shape relative to itself. The texture added by the column of maile around the outside also just looks nice. Pretty much any design could be mounted in this way.

Though this only uses a very little maile, it does demonstrate another use of the medium. These are real bones, mostly left over from animals I've eaten. They have been treated to remove all material that could mold or rot, and then been strung into a curtain by having holes drilled in the top and bottom, and finally galvanized steel rings to hold it all together. The same thing could be done to make a curtain with other items, or even make them part of an outfit.

A small charm in the shape of a whip. The handle is mode of a column of 4-1, the three ends are simple chains. I saw this as a key ring, however I suppose it could work as a large pendenant as well. The same design could certianly be scaled up to make a full sized whip.
