| Foreign versions. Almost every movie made now a days is distributed in at least one other language. A foreign version requires a complete sound track stripped of all dialogue in the original language--in other words just the music and sound effects. If any of the sound effects recorded on location with the dialogue were used in the sound track in it's original language version, they must be replaced (recreated and rerecorded) for use in the foreign version. In most recent films all the sound effects are replaced by Foley and Editors? sound effects. Breaking grounds. Foley is about creating the illusion of real sound. In an ordinary sound studio, the range of achievable real sound? is limited. By outfitting the old farmhouse with professional recording equipment, Footsteps Studios has created one of the most natural sounding recording environments available. The floor of the main studio is broken up into surfaces: Shiny hard wood, marble tiles, old creaky wood, linoleum, and concrete. The walls are mounted with various kinds of doors and cupboards, latches, locks and handles. The room is scattered with furniture in varying degrees of squeak, creak and whompff abilities. The sound proofed double garage doors allow us to drive a car directly into the studio, which assists in creating sounds that use the acoustics of a car's interior, or to match the quality of the handling of a car door or the woosh of a wet windshield wiper. |
