After filming So CLose, Vicki was interviewed by reporters. She replied that in the movie Shu Qi and Karen Mok took all the action and she was stuck with a sword! Vicki's number one wish was to have a kid! She doesn't want to go through the labour process, it would help alot if the kid just popped out right there. Why do Vicki want a kid? Well, Vicki said she'll always have a companion by her side. One of the question being asked by the reporter too was:"Do you miss living in Beijing?" and Vicki replied to them that she actually missed Beijing, because even on the streets stars are just like normal people and they have their own private life with no interuptions. But in Hong Kong, stars are way different from normal people, they dressed differently and they don't pretty much have a private life.
_______________________________________________________________________
After So Close, Vicki said since she had most of the goodie roles in most of her movies, So Close was an experience of her being a baddie. She actually liked being a baddie now in her movies, because she was getting tired of being a goodie in a movie.

Vicki Zhao Wei and ANDY LAU?
Vicki shocked the hong kong reporter by saying that - out of the many male stars from china, hong kong and taiwan, one that has the qualities to become her boyfriend is only andy lau.

Recently in an interview she did with 'eastweek magazine' latest edition, vicki could no longer keep her silence and revealed that in her heart the prince charming would have to be andy lau. She said, within the entertainment industry she has many male friends, but only andy can move her heart.

She also said, if she and andy were to date, wherever they were to go they would be noticed and that would satisfy her heart. not only is andy gentle, sentiment and romantic he also knows how to protect the girls, the only problem is that andy is too good looking, that will probably give the girlfriend a very insecure feeling.

Yet, already worked with vicki in hzgg's alec su, within vicki's eyes can only become very good friends. as she feels that her and alec are not compatible or suitable to have a love relationship.

On the other hand, nicky wu who starred along side with her in 'deja vu' would be more easier to accept than alec. as she reckons he is more realistic and more of a family man, he could give his girlfriend an enormous amount of security. a good choice for a husband.

Vicki has always admired steven chow, in vicki's eyes he is like a relative. Vicki says it's probably because she has watched too many of his films, she feels much warmth from them, that it's like growing up with a relative.

And lastly, hong kong star nick cheung who worked with vicki in 'the duel', a joker, vicki feels with nick's presence the atmosphere was very relaxing. she wishes she could have a older brother just like him.

Leung kiss for Faye(Chinese Odyssey)
Tony Leung teams up with singer Faye Wong for another outing that has Chang Chen and Vicki Zhao Wei as co-stars
The Straits Times, 6 Feb 2002
By Clara Chow
HONGKONG actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai had to 'kiss' Mandarin-pop diva Faye Wong almost continuously for two days. They were shooting a scene for their upcoming movie, Chinese Odyssey 2002, which opens here next Tuesday. But, Leung, 39, asserted it was only 'fake kissing' in which clever camera angles made up for lip contact. Said Leung of Wong: 'She just couldn't stop smiling or laughing. I don't remember how many out-takes we had. By the end of the scene, we were exhausted.

The two, as well as co-stars Vicki Zhao Wei and Chang Chen, were in Singapore on Monday to promote the movie in which Wong and Leung play each other's gender-bending love interests.

The pair first acted together in 1994, playing kooky lovers in Hongkong auteur Wong Kar Wai's Chungking Express. Chinese Odyssey 2002, directed by Jeff Lau, is also produced by Wong Kar Wai.

When asked about his impressions of his co-star, known for her ice-queen bearing, Leung said: 'Working on Chungking Express, I never saw her smile. But she's changed a lot. She's more mature. She makes jokes on the sets.

Wong, 32, the Beijing-born, Hongkong-based female singer, was in an upbeat mood, but characteristically enigmatic with her answers. When asked to compare Leung and Tony Leung Kar Fai, whom she worked with on Okinawa Rendezvouz, she said with an amused if exasperated laugh: 'Kar Fai's more bubbly, Chiu Wai's quieter. I don't find either sexy, I don't have that kind of feeling towards them.

Leung was in the midst of shooting Chinese director Zhang Yimou's big-budget Hero with Maggie Cheung and Zhang Ziyi when he was 'recalled' by Wong Kar Wai for Chinese Odyssey 2002.

The different experiences on the two sets, he said, was 'like going from heaven to hell.

It's very comfortable working with Zhang. We didn't need to do too many shots a day, we had nice facilities. And then you have to work more than 18 hours a day to complete Chinese Odyssey 2002 in 20 days.

The Chinese New Year comedy also stars mainland Chinese actress Zhao, whose career had recently been dampened by a Japanese-flag-as-dress incident. When asked about the patriotic backlash against fellow Chinese actress Zhao, both actors were unanimous in their condemnation of the media attack on her.Said Leung: 'She's professional and clever. A very nice girl. I didn't think it was her fault. It was too unfair.

Wong added, emitting a high-pitched whine: 'I think the whole incident was blown up by the media. I don't believe that many people will accuse Vicki of Japanese imperialism by wearing the dress. But I'm sure she'll be more careful from now on.

She, after all, has had her fair share of run-ins with the press. Recently, the Hongkong media claimed to have spoken to her five-year-old daughter Dou Jingtong who apparently revealed details about her mother's life with actor Nicholas Tse. When asked about the incident, Wong's eyes glazed over and she said defensively: 'They didn't interview Tongtong. I think the media shouldn't have harrassed Tongtong and then said they interviewed her.' She added: 'I feel very repulsed by what they did, but that doesn't mean I'm upset with Hongkong or will consider moving away.

Little Swallow goes quiet
Vicki Zhao Wei lets her co-stars hog the spotlight

ON HER first trip to Singapore since the infamous faeces-smearing incident, Chinese actress Vicki Zhao Wei remained low-key. Commenting on the fiasco - a man knocked her down before smearing excrement on her during a live TV performance in Hunan two months ago - she said: 'I feel that since the matter is over, let it go.

The attack came after patriotic Chinese became angry over her modelling a dress with a print of the old Japanese naval flag. Since then, she has not spoken to the stylist who put her in the dress. She told Life! on Monday: 'There's no need to make more people worry. I don't want to drag others into it.

Zhao, 25, who shot to fame playing the bubbly Little Swallow in the hit drama serial, My Fair Princess, declined to give any one-on-one interviews, only roundtable chats. She was here with Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Faye Wong to promote the new movie, Chinese Odyssey 2002.

Later, she sat pensively in the cast's van. She attributed her demeanour to the fact that 'everybody's so chatty'. The actress-singer also said she had caught a cold. 'I keep coughing, so I can't speak more.

While it had been reported that she and Wong did not get along, both denied it. Said Wong: 'We get along quite well. I like her straightforward nature. We often talk about acting matters.

Leaving the radio station, where they had given a live interview, Zhao blotted her face in the lift.
Wong promptly whipped out her own packet of facial blotters and offered it to her, saying: 'Here, use mine, they're better.

BEFORE Vicki BECOMES FAMOUS....
Extracted from The New Paper(Singapore) BEFORE she became famous, university student Vicki Zhao Wei was as carefree as a swallow.
Now, the 23-year-old can barely cope with her meteoric rise to fame. And, for three days last month, she mysteriously disappeared. She had earlier asked to take a day's leave from filming in Shanghai to attend her graduation from the Beijing Film Academy.
But the young actress failed to show up again after one day.
Her mobile phone was switched off. Where was she? Qiong Yao, the drama serial's producer, was mad.
And she is not someone to be trifled with.
She is the famous romance novelist who turned Ma Jingtao, Lin Ching-hsia and Chin Han into household names by casting them in her screen adaptations. It is thanks to her novel, My Fair Princess, that Vicki shot to mega-stardom in the lead role as Xiao Yanzi (Little Swallow).
But Vicki remains unrepentant.
WORN OUT Of her disappearance, she said: "I learnt that the graduation ceremony had been postponed only upon arriving in Beijing."
It was a well-deserved break for her.
"I filmed for more than 16 hours every day, far exceeding what's required by the employment law.
"I was so tired that my eyes were swollen, so I decided to remain in Beijing to rest for two days.
"Before that, I never slacked. I worked so hard because I give face to 'aunt' Qiong Yao. But I have to look after my own health, I'm no robot!" This isn't the first time the China-born actress went missing. Once, after filming, the crew members looked high and low for her. She was later found snoring away on the steps of the bus. So sound asleep was she that when the crew tried to wake her, they couldn't. So they ended up carrying her to the bus while she blissfully snoozed on. The young woman's rise to international fame has been nothing short of dramatic.
So convincing was she in her first role as the cheerful and bubbly commoner who swopped places with a princess in My Fair Princess that she made legions of fans in Hongkong, Taiwan and China. Just imagine.
Ten bodyguards escorted her while she was mobbed by thousands of fans during a visit to Hongkong last October. She was named Best Actress at the 17th Chinese Golden Eagle Awards in China last August - not bad for a newcomer. Vicki even beat Faye Wong in the popularity stakes - the sales of her debut album, Swallow, sold a whopping six million copies in Taiwan. But there's got to be a price to pay.
Spotted by a Hongkong reporter as she walked along Orchard Road with her boyfriend, Ye Maoqing, in February this year, Vicki displayed none of the radiance of her screen character, the carefree Xiao Yanzi. Instead, she was the picture of sheer fatigue - her swollen and bloodshot eyes being the most visible sign.
While her boyfriend bought an ice-cream from a convenience store, she stood stiffly beside him, with nary a smile. The week before her visit, speculation was rife that she might not pass her final year exams due to a sloppy thesis.
Thank goodness, she finally did graduate this June. But she asked her parents not to attend her graduation ceremony, to protect them from being the target of media hounds.
Her win of the Best Actress award at the 17th Chinese Golden Eagle Awards last August turned out to be a public embarrassment. She broke down in tears for 15 minutes after being ticked off by the Chinese press for turning up 45 minutes late.
She continued sobbing while signing autographs for fans after the event. She told the media then that she was unaware about the meeting as the organisers hadn't invited her.
When interviewed by The New Paper last year, she said: "I think I am too young. I didn't know how to handle that situation. "Also, I was just too overwhelmed by everything that happened that night." But for her latest fiasco, Vicki has some damage control to do. Her mentor Qiong Yao isn't convinced this time. Responding to Vicky's excuse that she needed rest, Qiong Yao spat out: "These kids like to have fun.
"Instead of resting, they sneak out to play, which tires them out more than work. As a result, they end up with swollen eyes and face." Nevertheless, like a doting 'aunt', she didn't tick off Vicki. "Since the matter has passed, never mind," said Qiong Yao. Yes, but perhaps it's time for a one-to-one pep talk?
