Chapter 8

Nick sat straight up in bed when he felt the cold water on his face.  He struggled to open his eyes and saw Kevin standing before him with a scowl on his face and a glass in his hand,
"What the fuck is wrong with you?"  Kevin placed the glass on the nightstand,
"Get up, we have radio to do this morning remember?"  He wiped his face,
"No, I don't have morning radio-"  Kevin sighed,
"You traded with Brian remember?  He went last night and you're going this morning.  Hurry up, you got ten minutes to be downstairs and in the van."  He began to walk away and called out over his shoulder,
"Make sure your friend is gone too."  Nick frowned,
"What?"  Kevin shook his head,
"Your little female friend that answered the door.  Where the hell did you meet her, the elevator?  Nick, you really need to get your shit together."  Nick sat up and swung his legs around, his feet on the floor,
"Well, I learned from you.  Singing and dancing wasn't the only thing you guys taught me in Europe."  Kevin rolled his eyes,
"Nine minutes."  Nick jumped as Kevin slammed the door on his way out.  He didn't have a hangover, thank God for small favors, he was just tired.  He looked over at the clock to see that it was 6:50.  Who the fuck scheduled a damn morning time interview?  Brian definitely owed him for this, Leighanne's ass better had been good.  He remembered seeing three am on the clock and now he had to be downstairs at seven.  Why didn't Larry remind him last night?  Maybe if he wasn't so busy playing cupid he could have done his job.  The door opened and Ashley walked out smiling,
"Hey, I'll be getting out of here I know you gotta get going any minute."  He nodded as he ran his hand through his hair,
"Yeah, um you gonna be at the show tonight?"  She smiled,
"Yes, I'm going to be there with a couple of my friends."  He nodded,
"Gimme a call after the show, we can hang out or something."  She gave him a kiss on the lips and nodded before walking out the door.  He sighed as he found the jeans and shirt he wore to dinner the night before.  He walked in the bathroom and ran his hand through his hair,
"Fuck it." he muttered as he turned off the light.  Just as he was tying his shoelace there was a knock on the door.  He didn't rush over to open the door or even bother to call out he simply continued getting ready, ignoring the second knock as he grabbed his baseball cap.  He opened the door to see Larry waiting,
"Morning kid, you ready?"  Nick grumbled as he walked past him, leavnig Larry to close the door,
"Why didn't you remind me about this radio crap last night?" Larry didn't say anything at first but when Nick turned and looked at him he figured he wanted an answer,
"You weren't in the best of moods last night."  Nick shook his head,
"Well, why didn't you wake me up?  Why did Kevin?"  He was in a foul mood this morning.  He really wasn't sure why, it wasn't even Kevin's antics with the water, he was used to Kevin and his bullshit.  He couldn't explain it, he just was a little pissed off,
"We're leaving a little earlier than planned and Kevin told me he was going to wake you up."  Nick grunted and that was the end of the conversation.

Sitting around the studio, waiting for the end of the hour commcercials to be over, Nick, Howie and Kevin signed pictures, CDs and baseball caps for the radio station.  Nick's demeanor was a little better than earlier partly because he was more awake and mostly because he needed to play his role.  He was Nick Carter, Backstreet Boy, he didn't have bad days.  Nick took off his headphones and stood up,
"Nick, we're going back on in forty-five seconds."  Nick nodded,
"Ok, I gotta hit the can man, can't wait."  He caught Kevin's eyes and gave him a 'oops sorry' grin before leaving.  As soon as he walked out the door he sighed, 'whatever Kevin.'  He was tired as hell and he didn't even know what plans they had for today besides the concert.  The concert, he knew Ashley was going to be there, then his thoughts went to Quinn.  Would she be at the concert?  He wished he would have paid more attention during dinner.  He knew he acted like a child the previous night but he was just in a bad mood after being tricked and it was hard for him to just switch on the charm like she did and pretend he wasn't bothered by what his friends did to them.

"Nick, do you know a girl named Sherry who lives in Miami?"  Nick frowned, what kind of question was that?  Why did he get the stupid questions?  He looked around the room, if he did know this girl why would this caller put this out there on the radio?  What purpose did it serve?  Some people have no since of what is appropriate,
"I...I don't think so. I don't know sweetie, I meet alot of people."  The radio DJ smelled a story,
"So, why do you ask this?  You don't believe your friend knows Nick?"  The girl giggled,
"She's not my friend.  She's my friend's friend.  I guess anything is possible but I just don't believe her."  Nosey DJ number 2 enters the conversation,
"What don't you believe?"  The girl was painfully blunt,
"That she slept with Nick."  Nick flinched and tried to laugh it off,
"Nope don't believe her, I'm a virgin."  Their record representative made a motion with his hand to move the interview along but the DJs weren't going to be told what to do by some outsider,
"Nick's a man, you gotta do what you gotta do."  This is morning radio, why were they talking about stuff like this?  Nick shook his head and smiled awkwardly, this was just one more time he regretted hooking up with random girls but they were so much easier to get than an actress or another singer.  Something with them always happened, always some type of drama.  There was never a question whether there was drama concerning sleeping with a fan it was just how much, how big and how many people were going to find out.  He never had that problem with Quinn, she knew how to keep her mouth shut, their drama was about regular shit, like cheating, never about something as crazy as showing up out of nowhere and expecting him to give them his time like he owed them, then got pissed when he didn't.
"Like I said, I'm a virgin."  She laughed,
"Yeah ok Nick."  He leaned forward,
"Can you prove I'm not."  His voice surprised him, there was a bit more edge than he planned.  She actually tried to argue with him and he sighed,
"Ok, you got me.  I'm not a virgin and yeah I know Sherry, thats my girl. We're very close.  You're right."  They hung up and Nick added,
"Yeah cause I'm really gonna sit here and talk about my personal life like that on the radio.  Next, and can we get a real question this time."  Kevin stared at Nick and was not happy at all but Nick didn't care.  That chick was an idiot, and their fans that were listening knew that too, if they weren't, they were idiots along with that girl.  He breezed through the rest of the radio show being just enough of a smartass that people didn't ask him stupid questions and nice enough so things were still enjoyable and fun.
