Chapter 67

Once we land at the airport in Mexico City, I went with the dancers, the significant others and the crew on to the hotel.  The group went directly to a television studio for an interview.  I walked with Kristin and followed her, with a couple of bellboys, to her room.
"Have a seat."  I sit on the couch and watch as she unpacks her and Kevin's luggage,
"Sorry, they didn't have a room for you.  That should have been taken care of but I guess we can get it settled when Dave gets here."  I nod,
"Thanks for letting me hang out with you until they get back."  She shakes her head,
"Oh it's no problem.  I noticed one of the bellboys was quite smitten with you, be careful."  I smile,
"Yeah Jose, I'm sure he just wants a bigger tip that's all."  She looks at me and it's like she's checking me out like stylists do right before they start some massive make over,
"What?"   She walks over and sits next to me,
"So what's up with you and Nick?"  I shrug,
"Nothing."  She frowns slightly in amusement,
"Really?  You two are dating right?"  I laugh lightly,
"No, we're just friends."  She kicks her tennis shoes off,
"Why?  I mean, do you want there to be more?"  I look at her unsure of what she wants to hear,
"I'm sorry I don't mean to be nosey it's just that, usually the girls aren't around as much as you.  They usually disappear after a week or two.  Nick is like the mob, one minute they're around the next they're never heard from again."  I smile,
"Maybe it's because we haven't slept toge-"  I look down and my hands in my lap,
"Oh, you guys...really?  I, wow.  I just assumed you two were you know...."  I shake my head,
"No, just friends."  She stands up and goes back to unpacking,
"Well, you should be more.  You'd be good for him.  You're smart, funny, you're laid back."  I smile,
"Not everyone thinks like you do."  She looks up,
"What?  His family?"  The mention of his family makes me wonder if I was right for questioning their true feelings about me.  Why would she bring them up,
"No, did he say something about them?"  She laughs lightly,
"No, I was going to say if it were them not to take it personally.  Nick is like God to them, no one is good enough."  I shake my head and stand up,
"No, not his family,  management and Leighanne.  Need some help?"  She stops and sits on the bed,
"No, that's ok but thanks.  I heard about that, that was really not cool.  I told Kevin that too, that's wrong to tell Nick who he should and shouldn't date.  And the reason was total bullsh..bull."  I smile, she does seem a little too prim and proper to say bullshit,
"I know they talked about it some more and I made sure Kevin spoke up for Nick, considering he was never shy about dating outside his race."  I look over at her and she nods her head,
"And as far as Leighanne...and Brian."  She sighs,
"They're stuck in their fantasy land, we just let them be.  Leighanne is a nice person but every now and then she has her moments."

We hang out until the guys make it back to the hotel from their television interview.  It was late that night and Kevin walks in,
"Hey, Nick was looking for you."
"There wasn't a room for me so I hung out here"  He frowns,
"A room?  Why do you need a room?  You're with Nick."  Kristin walks over and I watch as they wrap their arms around each other, I want that one day too,
"Quinn and Nick are just friends honey, just like you guys have your own rooms."  He laughs,
"Yeah, ok."  She nods her head and he looks over at me,
"Oh, really.  Oh, sorry."  Kevin?  Uncomfortable, I have to play on this,
"Sorry about what Kevin?  What did you think was going on between me and Nick?"  He looks at me and then back at Kristin,
"I mean, come on. Nick doesn't really have any female friends.  You guys...come on."  I shake my head,
"Never, not once."  He stretches his eyes and shakes his head,
"Damn."  There was a knock on the door and Kevin went over to answer it,
"Hey, just talking about you."  Nick smiles and he walks in,
"I love attention."  He walks over to me,
"I was looking for you, I went to Eric's room and he said you were hanging with Kristin."  He goes over and hugs Kristin and gives her a peck on the cheek,
"Get off my wife, your girlfriend is right over there."  I look over at Kevin as he steps in between Nick and his wife.  Nick looks over at him,
"What?"  Kevin laughs,
"You two lovebirds."  Nick looks over at me and I try to give him a non verbal signal,
"You told them about Vegas?"  Kevin screams out,
"I knew it!"  I shake my head at Nick and roll my eyes,
"What?"  I could slap him, nonverbal is not his thing,
"Nothing, they don't have a room for me."  Nick nods,
"Yeah, I told Dave you're sleeping in my room."  Kevin and Kristin look like cats eating on a canary,
"Come on, help me with my bag."  He picks up my bag and walks out first.  I turn and look at the gloating couple,
"Nothing happened.  We almost in Vegas, but we DIDN'T."  They nod but I'm sure they don't believe me.
