Chapter 61

Nick and I sit around the room pretending as if there was no tension in the room.  It was cool to see him and hear his oddball questions and comments again as we watched TV,
"So, I haven't heard from you."  I nod,
"Well, you know my number."  He sighs,
"You know mine."  I roll my eyes,
"Now that we have it settled that we know each other's phone numbers."  He looks over at me the annoyed expression on his face very obvious,
"What's your problem?  Why do have attitude?"  I sigh, I don't l know.  I do know, I'm jealous, I want  him, I really like him and he is totally clueless.  I can't say that,
"I don't have an attitude."  I wonder if he even remembers that night, his proposition.  If he doesn't I don't want to bring it up,
"How's Marnie?"  He looks at me wide-eyed,
"I notice I didn't get a report on HER."  He shrugs and stutters,
"I figured you didn't want to hear about your friend."  I snort,
"She isn't my friend, she just used me to get to you...and it worked."  He sighs and runs his hands through his hair,
"Oh."  I sigh and decide to go for it, a little,
"You think I like hearing about you and all your little friends?  No, I don't.  This is such and give and take relationship.  I give and you take.  When is the last time you asked me about what's going on with me besides my lack of a sex life."  He stands up and walks near me,
"I'm sorry, if I hurt your feelings...I didn't mean to."  He holds his arms out and I know what he just said was bull, I know he was saying what he needed to get out of the situation so why am I walking into his arms and letting him hold me?

There is a knock on the door and I look at myself in the mirror one last time.  A short black skirt, black boots and a red top, can't go wrong right?  I open the door to see Nick and Larry standing there,
"Hey, you ready?"  I look around,
"I'm waiting on Eric."  Nick shakes his head,
"He had a change of plans he went with Lisa, Shannon and Andre."  I look at Larry, who nods his head,
"Ok, whatever."

We walk out the elevator and girls begin to scream and the other girls try to calm them down.  Larry looks over at Nick,
"Do you want to do this?"  Nick looks over at me and I shrug,
"Sign."  He winks and we walk over as everyone became excited,
"Calm down and back up or he's gone."  It has been about three minutes and I look down at my watch, then suddenly I feel a hand on my arm,
"Thank you for letting him come over."  I smile at the girl and shrug as I shake my head in confusion, she had to have been my age,
"Oh, um it's ok."  I look over at Larry and he raises his eyebrows.  I had the need to hit the restroom before we leave and figure this is the perfect time.  Once Nick sees me walking he calls out,
"You ready?"  I turn and see the anxiety on the faces of all the girls, who all probably couldn't wait to get to their computers and call me the bitch who made Nick leave,
"No, keep doing what you're doing, I'll be back."   Just before I get back to the crowd I hear him answer one of the brave girls who dared to ask the question regarding me,
"She's a friend." A little girl, she looks fifteen trying to be twenty-two smiles as Nick signs her book,
"Nick, I like your shirt."  I stand behind him shaking my head and mouth to her,
"No you don't, ugh."  I stick my finger down my throat and roll my eyes as some of the girls begin to giggle.  I stop and look around as Nick turns and looks at me,
"What?  What's wrong?"  He frowns and shrugs,
"Nothing, I guess."  He takes a magazine from one of the girls and smiles,
"Hey, I like this picture.  I don't even remember taking this."  He flips the magazine and looks at the cover then opens it back to the page and shows me,
"Look."  I pretend to me bored,
"Yeah, it's alright."  He looks at the girls and sigh,
"She likes Justin Timberlake."  I laugh,
"He's hot."  The girls all begin to groan.  I can tell alot of them are scoping me out from head to toe and I'm quite uncomfortable as the cameras flash.  I know some of those pictures are of me and Nick isn't even in them.  Larry holds up his hand,
"Ok, Nick has to go now."  There were groans as I look around and even see a few tears then Nick spoke softly,
"Did I sign everyone's stuff?"  Everyone nods yes and he smiles as he walks ahead of me and Larry has his hand on my lower back directing me out the door and into the truck,
"You handled that well." he whispered in my ear and I turn and smile at him,
"Thanks Larry."  He winks and closes the door behind me. Nick leans over,
"We're going to have fun tonight."  I cross my arms and grunt as I look over at him, making sure he knew I still wasn't happy with him even though I did want to hug him when I saw the rejected look on his face.
