Chapter 28

The stores Vanessa wanted to shop in were more expensive than any store he had been in the five days he had been there. She managed to buy jewelry and a pair of two hundred dollar shoes, none of which he offered to pay.

He had bought her things before. When you have as much money as he did you couldnt get a girl a fifty-dollar purse. He had to do it right, if only for his own reputation.

Are you ready to get something to eat?

She nodded her head, Yes, all this shopping has me hungry.

All the shopping had him hungry. Women and men were different in every way possible. He escorted her to the car and opened the door for her. Before she got in, he took the bags from her and placed them in the trunk.

Once he was inside she placed her hand on his thigh, Come here.

He leaned towards her and they kissed. It lasted a few seconds before he pulled back and started the car.

**

He had been given the name of a small romantic restaurant that served Spanish cuisine. It was on the water and they had a perfect view of the ocean minus the awful smell the ocean could emit.

        Derek this is beautiful.

One of the locals recommended it. He said most people dont know about it.

It was a well-kept secret and it wasnt easy to find. At one point, he felt like turning around and going to one of the many places they passed along the way.

The classical music wafted in the air adding to the romantic mood. They were on a hill and he glanced out the window down at the water.

Sarah has finally admitted she has a thing for Mark. So Alicia and I are thinking

He tuned her out as she started talking about her friends and their silly little seventh grade issues. Sarah finally admitting she has a thing for Mark wouldnt seem so utterly ridiculous to him if she hadnt already given up the ass to him. At this point, who cares if she has a thing for him?

The waiter came over and they ordered. She ordered the oysters and he stuck with arroz con pollo. Chicken and rice seemed so much fancier in Spanish. Oysters? At a Spanish cuisine restaurant in Jamaica?

I heard oysters are an aphrodisiac. She said to him suggestively.

I dont know. He felt like leaving it at that but he knew having her in his bed would make him feel horny later. Guess well see. Make sure to save me some.

She smiled at him as if he was some bad boy that had impressed her with his appalling behavior.

        What are we doing tomorrow?

Road trip. Heading over to Ochos Rios.

Ive never been there I heard its nice; a lot of great shopping.

Sometimes he wondered was there anything other than her career, Sex and the City, the O.C and fashion week that she cared about.

**

Its so beautiful Derek. Ive always wanted to walk hand in hand on the beach at night with the perfect guy.

They were strolling hand in hand on the beach. Her shoes were off and she was carrying them in her left hand with her tiny right hand in his left hand. The moon was full and bright.

Im glad you like it. Im glad Im the one.

Why did he say that? He couldnt stop himself from saying something sappy even when he didnt want to. He couldnt control himself. He kept walking but she stopped and pulled him back to her. She wrapped her arms around his neck,

Thank you for flying me out to be with you.

He may not have bought her any jewelry or shoes but he did buy her a first-class roundtrip ticket to Jamaica for the weekend.

Youre welcome.

Usually, he would have spent his entire week without a girl he had to deal with in New York. It was his time to be with his boys.

They came upon a boat docked at a pier, Come on.

Where are we going?

The boat. I rented it for a couple of hours.

She flung herself into his embrace kissing him wildly all over his face, Thank you, thank you, thank you baby.

They walked down the pier towards the boat. It had to be at least 50 feet. The name on the side said Tropical Charm. One of the crew helped her onto the boat then gave him a hand as he climbed aboard.

There was a bottle of champagne and blankets waiting for them. They stood on the side of the boat and watched the beach get farther in the distance.

**

        Lets dance.

This pace, the slow beat of the music, he could handle. He placed one hand on the small of her back and the other he used to hold her hand. He pulled her body close to his and there was no room between them; even a fly couldnt pass through.

At first, there was a bit of distance between their faces, which allowed them to look at each other. Every time he looked at her, he saw a beautiful girl. The beautiful part was great; the problem was the girl part. He couldnt see himself with her because he couldnt see her being content with being tucked away and raising their kids.

Thats why he knew they werent meant to be. Her career was just starting out and she didnt want to derail that. He wanted an independent woman with her own interest but not one who was an entertainer. He traveled and had a busy enough schedule for three people, the last thing he needed was a wife that rivaled his frequent flyer miles. He didnt want his kids being raised by nannies.

He felt her shiver.

Are you cold?

No, just happy.

She lay her head on his shoulder and he placed his head on the top of her head. He closed his eyes. Even though she wasnt his forever, she was right now and she felt good.
