| Chapter 65 I looked in the mirror and was happy with what I saw. Leather pants was a requirement in the world of rock and roll wasn't it? Sarah should be here soon and it was off to play Ms Matchmaker for me. I didn't bother to tell Nick that I was trying to set him up with my friend. I have a feeling between the two of them they will just migrate towards each other anyway. I went into my bag and pulled out my favorite party favor and poured it on the counter top. It went from something I did at parties with other people who did it to something I did a few times a week. Cocaine kept me grounded. To some that may sound weird but to me it makes total sense. As I ran my fingers over my nose there was a knock on the door. I checked myself to make sure there was no evidence before letting Sarah in. Drugs were something she was completely against. So much so that she did public service announcements about the dangers of them. I opened the door and I knew it was going to be a great night when I saw her. "Hi." I shook my head, "Hi yourself. You look great." And she did with her dark blue jeans and purple tank top. Simple and sexy, Nick was going to love her. "Thanks, I didn't want to overdue it. Don't want him thinking I'm trying too hard." I couldn't help but smile at her comment of not wanting to try too hard, "How much was that tank top?" She rolled her eyes at me, "One fifty and before you ask the jeans were one twenty." I laughed, "Yeah, you're slumming it tonight." Ordinary people would want to slap us. For paying one hundred and fifty dollars for a plain tank top and for having the nerve to consider it inexpensive. That is why our lives are so different and thank God better than their lives. Going to the local mall is out of the question. If I'm going to buy something off the rack it was going to be out of a store that sold one hundred and fifty dollar tank tops. I noticed her hair and shook my head, "No, hair down." She frowned as I pulled her hair down, "Your hair isn't down." I shrugged, "I'm not the one who is meeting someone." She pulled away from me and played with her hair, "God, you make me feel like some hard up ugly chick." I grabbed my hairbrush and handed it to her, "Of course not. Don't be silly." I'm thinking Nick is like most guys and likes long hair. She rolled her eyes as she used the brush then threw it on the bed, "Ok, you ready?" I nodded and picked up my little bag, "Ready." I was definitely ready and I was going to be in good spirits, thanks to my little pick me up, by the time we meet Nick. "Fucking answer your phone Nick." I can't believe he has me standing out here with two smug ass event security guys looking like an idiot. I told him to make sure his phone was on but I guess I should have reminded him to answer the damn thing as well. "Looks like he wasn't expecting you after all." I rolled my eyes at him. He looked like a big roll-on deodorant bottle with his shiny bald head. He went to grab me by my arm and I pulled away, "Do not touch me asshole." This seemed to piss him off even more, "Just go to some club or to their hotel lobby and try to get their attention." The other laughed and looked Sarah and I up and down, "You girls are pretty hot. I'm sure they'll give you some time. Even if you don't get them tonight they'll be here for three shows in a row." Sarah shook her head, "Whatever." She turned to me, "Brehan, come on let's go. I do not want to deal with this. This is ridiculous." I sighed and looked at event staff, "You don't know who the fuck you are talking to. I'm not some little girl trying to meet one of the Backsteet Boys. I will have your damn job for this shit." Sarah began to pull me away as my phone rang, "Wait a minute." I answered the phone and breathed a sigh of relief, "Nick, why didn't you answer your phone? I've been standing out here with three fucking idiots who won't let me backstage." I turned my attention to them, "They're fucking goons. They totally insulted me and my friend and I don't appreciate it one bit." Their smug expressions dimmed and were replaced with looks of nervousness as they looked at each other, "Ok, where are you?" I sighed, "I don't know Nick." I could hear him sigh and the last thing I wanted was for him to be in a bad mood. Sarah was already a little ticked off and if it got any worse they wouldn't be in the mood to properly meet each other, "Hand the phone to the...whoever you're talking to." I handed the phone over to one of the minimum wage-earning peons. He was a little hesitant and I persisted by pushing the phone closer to his face, "He wants to talk to you." He took the phone and glanced at his partners before answering into the phone, "Hello?" I stood there and before long he was nodding his head and stuttering. After the conversation was over he tried to fumble with the phone. I snatched it from his hand and closed it, "Well?" He sighed and looked down briefly before staring across my shoulder, "I'm sorry. I wasn't aware of who you were. I'll take you backstage." I looked over at Sarah and rolled my eyes at his sorry excuse for an apology. We walked down the hallway and soon AJ noticed us and smiled but he never lost his concentration and continued to talk to the camera. We stood behind the cameraman and suddenly AJ signaled for the end, "Alright man." He stretched his hand out and directed us into a room that had his name on the outside. I immediately walked into Nick's arms, "I'm sorry you had a hard time getting back here." I shook my head as I closed my eyes. It feels really nice, I feel so comfortable. It's really unexplainable but simply put, I like being hugged by him. "It's ok, not your fault. Well, actually it is." He groaned and shook his head, "I know. My phone was in my dressing room and I was hanging in here with AJ." He pointed to the couch, "Have a seat." I turned and directed Sarah over with my eyes, "This is my friend Sarah, Sarah this is Nick." She walked over and they shook hands, "Nice to meet you Sarah." She smiled, "Same here Nick." I could see him sizing her up and like the good girl she allowed him to do so without feeling uncomfortable by looking away. AJ walked in and joined us and I wanted to tell him to get lost but I guess it was his dressing room. Nick gently shoved me on the shoulder and smiled, "So, I meant to ask you why aren't you going to be up for auction." I smiled, "I'm not single remember?" He didn't know it but he gave me something to get he and Sarah to talk about, "Sarah is the one who organized the entire thing." I pulled her into the conversation, "Sare, tell Nick all about the gala." I walked over to AJ, "Is there something to drink in this place?" He nodded, "Yeah, let me take you to catering."
