Chapter 64

At least with this morning show we were doing that last hour when they were seen all over the country.  Good Day Live is a cool show.  I've caught it a few times when I was lying around in bed.  The two chicks are hilarious and it's so obvious they get to the old guy sometimes.  Reminds me of how Brian and I used to annoy the hell out of Kevin.  There was a knock on the door and I looked in the mirror and saw Jillian and Dorothy,
"Come in."  Jillian smiled and it was like she was on top of the world.  She seemed so genuinely upbeat and happy.  Too happy for so early in the morning,
"Hi there."  The makeup lady moved away and she stood behind me and wrapped her arms around me to give me a hug,
"I just wanted to come in and say hi before the show started sweetie."  I smiled,
"Thanks."  I didn't know what to say to her.  She was a bit older than me, but for the record I would still do her.  This was our first time on their show but I know my brother had been on their show numerous times.  She walked over and greeted AJ and Dorothy walked over as I turned in time to hug her properly,
"Hi, glad to have you.  We've had your brother on and he's such a sweetheart.  It's good to finally have you and the rest of the guys."  Jillian walked over near Dorothy and they stood together in the middle of the room,
"How has the tour been for you guys?  Exhausted huh?"  AJ nodded,
"Yes, but we're used to it."  The makeup lady came back and began to put some concealer underneath my eyes, that late night with Jessica had it's disadvantages but it was surely worth it.  Dorothy entered into the conversation,
"Do you guys still get nervous going on TV or its just another thing?"  That's why I like being interviewed by women I thought, as AJ began to answer.  They love to talk so much that they end up answering the questions for you.
"We'll see you guys soon.  You're looking great."  They walked out and AJ and I just looked at each other and laughed.

Again, this scheduling thing was not something I am happy with.  We did Good Morning Live and that's cool.  I wasn't thrilled about being in the studio but whatever.  Now a KTLA camera crew is following us around.  Their entertainment correspondent is doing a segment on what we do on the day of a concert.   So, I have to be witty and charming all day. Can't complain about anything, can't use foul language because God forbid I'm not a role model for someone's kid.  I wouldn't have a problem with being a role model if people allowed role models to be human.  If they gave you some slack and remembered you were going to make mistakes.  Why is it that every time you do something adult it was considered wrong?  We're adults, everything we do isn't for kids and if people weren't going around snooping and trying to know everything they wouldn't get their bubble burst and be disappointed in their role models.  So, a camera following me around all day is something I am oh so happy about.  A few hours are fine but not all damn day attempting to be somewhat more perfect than I am.  No one is himself or herself on camera.  Not even rockers, in fact they are more fake than popstars.  That angry, hate people shit is so manufactured it's ridiculous.  They are just as packaged as us; it's just a different wrapping paper.  I remember when we did that stupid Around the World in 100 hours thing.  That was Brian's idea and I wasn't happy about it.  They made it seem like we all thought it was wonderful but I fought that shit.  Unfortunately, I lost the battle.

We were in the van on our way back to the venue when my cell phone rang.  AJ picked it up off my lap and answered it.  He always that was the funniest thing but most of the time it irritated me.  In fact, I think that is what amuses him the most, the fact that it bothers me.
"Nick Carter's phone."  I swear the more I mature the more he and Kevin become less so.
"May I ask who's calling?  Does he know you?"  Whomever it is they shocked the arrogance off his face and out of his voice,
"Oh yeah.  Um, hold on a minute."  He held the phone down and whispered to me,
"It's vamp."  I now knew, without hesitation, that vamp was his codename for Brehan.  I smiled and grabbed the phone,
"Hello?"  She must have gotten my message finally,
"Hello kid.  How are you?"  I could feel AJ's eyes on me and I just ignored him and Howie who was now leaning forward from the back seat of the van hanging over my shoulder,
"I'm good.  Where have you been?"  I could hear what sounded like elevator music in the background,
"I've been here in LA.  I'm at the spa right now."  At the spa, so Hollywood,
"Ooh the spa.  Are you sitting in one of those mud baths with some cucumbers over your eyes?"  I looked over to see AJ frowning at me,
"As a matter of fact smartass no I'm not.  I'm taking a little break right now."  I laughed, that sounded like the craziest thing I've ever heard,
"A break?  You're taking a break from your spa treatment?"  She really was the high maintenance type.
"Not really.  I stopped so I could talk to you and you're giving me shit."  I have a feeling her stopping in the middle of a pampering session was like me having to stop eating or playing the drums so I stopped,
"Ok, ok cool. So what have you been doing besides spa treatments?"  You know I still wonder, even though I've gotten to know her a little since that first day our path's crossed, what she actually did all day.
"It's only my second day in town but I did a photoshoot and a fitting for my gala dress."  What the hell is that?
"Gala dress?"
"My friend is having her annual fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer.  I'm the emcee for the bachelor and bachelorette auction."  Wow, even Brehan was involved in charities.
"That's nice.  What's this auction thing?"  She laughed,
"A bunch of people auction themselves off.  The highest bidder wins a date with the bachelor or bachelorette."  Sounds like that has a lot of potential for embarrassment.
What are you doing tonight?"  Howie was hanging on my back and AJ was practically sitting on my lap,
"Thinking of stopping by to see you before your concert started.  Is that cool?"  It's not like there was going to be a lot going on beforehand and I was already restless and ready to get going,
"When you get here call me."  Now I was a little nervous about her seeing the show.  Would she like it?
"Great, make sure your phone is on.  I'm going to bring a friend.  We'll be there in about an hour."  I nodded,
"Good."  And that was the end of the conversation and AJ was attacking me,
"She's coming to the show?"  I rolled my eyes,
"Yeah and she's bringing a friend with her."  I turned and Howie's smile matched AJ as I shook my head,
"You guys do remember I told you she has a boyfriend?  I don't know what you're getting so excited about?"  AJ sat back and smiled as we pulled into the back of the arena,
"Dude, stranger things than someone getting a little loving on the side have been known to happen.  And do you really think that girl hasn't stepped out on her man before?"  I shook my head,
"No I don't.  She's completely into him."  Even more than she should be.  Actually, I could think of worse things than her hooking up with AJ or Howie and was beginning to hope she did hook up with one of my band mates.
