Chapter 6

The following morning Pete made a beeline for me as I walked into the lobby,
"You have to be really careful with Nick."  I frowned, what did I do?
"What?  What do you mean?"  He handed me a newspaper,
"Read the highlighted part."  As I read I knew exactly what he meant, the comment about sex,
"Pete, he's over twenty-one,  no one thinks he's a virgin or anything."  He sighed,
"That's not the point.  He's a Backstreet Boy.  Parents don't want to take their kids to a show where the artists are open about their sex lives.  Once they start talking about sex they'll get comfortable and before you know it they'll be talking like Howard Stern."  I shook my head.  I knew he was right but I had to argue the point,
"Anyone who is reading the paper knows about sex."  I watched as Nick and Howie walked into the lobby and began to sign a few autographs,
"You and I understand they are men and all that stuff but the majority of their fans are under eighteen."  I nodded, it was not going to be fun hanging out with them like they were men and working on their image like they were children,
"Understand, sorry about the article."  He laughed,
"It's ok, it'll give the older fans something to fantasize about."  Kevin walked up,
"Good morning."  I smile,
"Good morning."  Pete patted him on the back,
"Hey, I need to make a phone call.  I'll see you at the venue a little later."  Kevin nodded,
"You aren't going to be there for the interviews?  I mean, not that we need you.  We can handle that."  He smiled,
"It's not that, I know you can handle it but you shouldn't have to, that's what we're here for, to make your life as comfortable as possible.  We work, you show up."  Kevin smiled and nodded his head,
"Thanks Pete."  Pete looked over at me,
"Priscilla has everything under control, she'll be there."  I nod at Kevin, trying to put his mind at ease, I know he wasn't completely comfortable with the new kid running things,
"Piece of cake."  Pete winked at me and as he walked off he shook hands with Jeff, one of the guys from their management.
"Kevin, you wanted to see me?"  Kevin nodded,
"Yeah, I just wanted a refresher on our schedule for today."  I smiled and waved goodbye as they discussed the day's events, off to find something to eat before we departed for the venue.

Brian, Howie and AJ were sitting in chairs, with Nick and Kevin standing behind them while they had their Entertainment Tonight interview.  The young correspondent was obviously taken with her assignment,
"So AJ, I hear you're a pretty confident guy.  Do you look think you're a good looking guy?"  AJ smiled,
"Now how can I answer that.  I don't know, you tell me."  I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the entire spectacle.  Granted it wasn't Time or Newsweek but couldn't they talk about something more intelligent?  I zone out and hope they don't talk about sex or Pete would kill me.  But it was Entertainment Tonight they were a more family-oriented to show so it should be ok, I hope.

It was eleven thirty before we got back to the hotel, Pete had long made it back but I stuck around just to watch things and get a feel for the environment I would a part of for the next few months.  All the people running around, all the security, I learned quickly to always have my 'All Access' pass around my neck at all times when I was almost thrown out.  Luckily, Jeff remembered me and vouched for me, escorting back to my bag to get my pass just in case someone else wanted to throw me out on my ass.  I slowely drag myself into the shower and stand underneath the shower as I lean against the cold tile, this was definitely going to be an experience I'll never forget, I can tell that already.  I let out little sighs as the hot water loosened my muscles and relaxed my body.  Tomorrow night was the first night of the concert and it was going to be hectic to say the least.

It's concert day and I stand to the side and watch as eager little girls asks their questions of the guys.  They were wearing headbands, T-shirts and eveything else that showed their loyalties to individual Boys and the group as a whole,
"Nick, do you have a girlfriend?"  Jesus, what is it with that question,
"No, I don't.  I wish I did, I'm lonely."  The little girls awed and I wanted to hurl.  Sure you're lonely since eight-thirty, that's what time that girl left your room this morning.  I suffered through several questions from babies, wives and girlfriends to cars, cologne, favorite songs and most embarrassing moments.  Someone slap me, I am seriously going to have to talk to Pete about sitting through these.  I have a feeling I'm here because he doesn't want to be and this is for the new kid on the block.

Pete suggested I sit down front row and get a good view of the concert since I had never seen the guys performed.  Some of the stuff is quite silly in my opinion but overall it is quite entertaining.  I look over to my left and watch Nick grind his hips and I can't help but stare.  I never saw any of that in him for the past few days off stage but on-stage he is quite sexual.  I can't take my eyes off him the entire time, even when he isn't singing I'm watching him, he's hypnotic.  As he danced with one of the female dancers, pulling her close, his hands on her hips as he grinded into her butt, I did notice no one else seemed to do that, I couldn't help but whisper,
"I wouldn't mind being her right now."  I shake my head and wonder where the hell that came from.
