Chapter 5

She loved when they performed in huge venues like the Georgia Dome.  There were so many people and it seemed to be louder than usual.  She smiled as she watched the guys up on stage.  AJ was making girls scream as usual and Kevin looked like he overdosed on some happy pills,
"I love this show, it's much better than the last one."  She screamed over to Kristin,
"Yeah, they refused to do too much dancing.  They wanted to be all about vocals Kevin said."  She nodded in agreement, she always thought they were just meant to sing especially Kevin, Brian and Nick.  No matter how many times he would complain about it to her, Shayna knew that deep down Nick liked alot of the dancing.  She stood up and bent over to let Kristin know she was headed backstage,
"Hey, I'm going to go ahead and get out of here."  Kristin nodded,
"I'm right behind you."  As they walked, Kristin held onto her shoulders and Shayna knew it was bringing attention to her.  She was with Kristin so she had to be someone in the Backstreet world, they just didn't know who.  Kristin stepped up closer to her and there was almost no room between them,
"I love your outfit.  I'm too old for that."  She smiled,
"You're not too old.  You're not old at all and besides you look hot."  She had to laugh at her outfit, Nick told her she should change. She was wearing a pair of Army pants and a tight pink T-shirt that showed her belly.  She liked her little ensemble, she thought it was different but Nick thought it was too much for the concert, he never would tell her what too much meant and even though he didn't like it, she wore it anyway.  Sometimes he just couldn't get his way.  They made their way backstage and Kristin smiled at her as she admired her outift,
"I would never have the nerve to wear that.  It wouldn't even hit me to put that together."  Shayna laughed,
"We can go shopping together.  Although Kevin probably wouldn't like you shopping with me."  Kristin rolled her eyes,
"Kevin doesn't tell me what to do.  We can go shopping when we get to Philly."  I nodded,
"Sounds good to me."  They sat down on the couch in Kevin's dressing room,
"So, you and Nick.  I can't believe you were apart for that long and I can't believe you guys got back together."  She leaned into Shayna,
"So, we haven't really talked and if you don't want to I understand but what happened with you guys?"  Shayna shrugged, so many times she had been asked this question, you'd think she had a perfect answer for it, but she didn't,
"I don't know, I guess we just lost our way but we found each other again after a little growing up."  She smiled and nodded,
"Can I be honest with you?"  She didn't want to hear anything that followed that question,
"Sure."  Kristin took a deep breath,
"I didn't think you and Nick would be together too long."  Shayna frowned,
"What made you think that?"  She tried to keep a smile on her face as she waited for her to continue,
"Well, I figured you and Nick were just a fling. I mean when you first starting coming around he had all those girls and stuff and I remember him saying you guys were just casual.  Next thing we knew he was moving you in."  She nodded her head,
"Yeah, I know.  I guess it got us both by surprise."  The truth of the matter was she didn't know about any other girls when they were first together.  He said when they first started dating that he wasn't seeing anyone and that she was the only one.  She knew in her heart, even back then, that she shouldn't have believed that.  In fact, part of her didn't but she had hoped and dreamed.  He had been cheating on her before she even moved in.  She wondered if there was a month that went by in their relationship where he didn't cheat on her.  She snapped back to attention when she felt Kristin's hand on her thigh,
"Did I say something wrong?  Are you ok Shayna?"  She nodded her head,
"Yeah, I'm fine.  Just thinking about being on the road with my best friend Leigh."  Kristin nodded her head,
"Yeah, I almost forgot you two don't get along at all."  Shayna rolled her eyes,
"She has always had it out for me and I don't know why.  I'm sure she was thrilled when Nick and I broke up.  I've never done anything to her."  Kristin sipped on a bottled water and nodded as she swallowed,
"I don't know how to explain it.  I mean, she really is a nice person, it's just you.  You two seem to clash, she's cool with everyone else."  Shayna snorted,
"Well, that makes me feel better."  Kristin smiled,
"Maybe she caught Brian giving you the eye or something."  She wasn't sure what it was but there was something.  Leighanne just didn't like her at all and she always made sure Shayna knew it, particularly when there weren't others around,
"So when is she coming on tour, so I know to have my bullet proof vest ready?"  Kristin giggled,
"I know she'll be here the first week of February for the northeast swing of the trip."  Shayna frowned,
"The entire northeast part of the tour?  Please tell me you'll be here."  Kristin shook her head,
"Nope sorry, I'm leaving from Philly."  Shayna groaned and slid down in the couch,
"Man, come on."  She looked over at Kristin,
"You have no idea why she hates me so much?"  Kristin shrugged,
"I'm not sure.  I'm really not.  She's never talked to me about you because she knows I like you.  Don't take it personal though, besides Mandy she's never liked any of Nick's girls."  Shayna grunted,
"So, its not me, its who I'm dating?  Why does she care?  I'm the one sleeping with every night."  A smile spread across her face and Kristin laughed,
"Good huh?"  Shayna shook her head and laughed,
"You have no idea."  Kristin frowned and waved her hands,
"And I don't want to know.  That's my little brother."  They sat in Kevin's dressing room and waited for the guys to finish, they left before the last song started should they could be coming back any moment.  From the venue they were headed straight to Philadelphia, no sleeping in a hotel room.  She sat and played with a string on her pants and looked up when she felt Kristin's hand on her arm,
"Don't worry about Leighanne ok? You just make sure you make Nick happy.  He always gets so lonely on the road.  I'm glad he has you, you don't know how much this means to him.  How much this is going to help."  Shayna frowned slightly,
"Really?"  Kristin nodded,
"Yeah.  We would come out on the road and visit, me and Kevin's family.  Brian's family, Howie's and Denise would visit AJ.  Nick would have no one.  There were times when all the families were out on the same trip and his wouldn't be there.  They are always with Aaron.  And I can understand that, Aaron is younger than Nick and Nick would tell you he'd rather they were there for his little brother than him but everyone needs their family sometimes."  She never knew he was so lonely on the road, all the times he would ask her to come out on the road and she would tell him no because of work.  She never thought it was a big deal because he would always joke about needing to have sex but maybe he was lonely and needed someone. No matter what, she was going to make sure this truly was the best tour he has ever had.
"This is going to be the best tour ever for him, I promise you that."  Kristin smiled,
"Good, besides this is the good luck tour."  Shayna laughed,
"The good luck tour?"  Kristin nodded,
"Yeah, every tour or every album is associated with something bad.  The first one had Howie's sister and Brian's surgey.  Millennium had the lawsuits and crap, Black & Blue had AJ's rehab, more lawsuits and other crap.  This is the one, this is the one where they enjoy themselves competely with no outside problems.  What more could go wrong?"  Shayna shook her head, she could only imagine.
