Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. We are only about 300 meters north of the 401 (Trans-Canada) Highway, on the west side of Highway 29 (known locally as Stewart Blvd), in Brockville,
Ontario.  Our city is approximately 30 minutes drive from the US Border at the Thousand Islands Bridge, 30 minutes from the bridge between Prescott and Ogdensburg, NY, or an hour and a half from the national capital Ottawa.

Good Shepherd is a small congregation made up of members who are very
friendly and very comfortable together.  Averaging 45-55 persons in worship
each Sunday, the group is small enough to notice when a visitor or a
new-comer is with us.  And yet we are also interested enough in visitors to
be sure to invite you to fellowship over coffee, tea, juice and assorted
snacks, and to take some time to get to know you better.  Fellowship hour
is a regular event after Service each Sunday, and almost everyone stays.

The congregation is relatively young, founded in April 1962 mostly by
immigrants from north eastern Europe after World War II.  After the
hardships of the war, the loss of loved ones for most, and being uprooted
from their homes, the hope of a new life which brought them to Canada meant
starting over with little or nothing.  By hard work and depending on God
and each other for support and encouragement, our members have built a new
life in a new land, enjoying peace and prosperity.  The common struggles
have helped our members build a strong bond and develop close ties.

Many of those who were founding members are still active in the life and
leadership of the congregation, so many of our members are retired and in
their senior years.  But equally prominent are successive generations:
their children and grandchildren.

As well, God continues to regularly lead new residents to the area, who
have found a home and are making a new life in this beautiful city of
20,000+ along the St. Lawrence River.  Many of the new members we have
received over the past few years came to us because they are Lutheran by
background.  Several others have joined us because they found a genuine
welcome in this Church.

Our Sunday Church School is quite small, with one class for a few older
children, and one for a few who are pre-school or just starting their
formal education.  The children join the whole congregation for the
beginning of worship, and then leave for their class time, returning to
share the sacrament of Holy Communion.  It is our practice to celebrate
Holy Communion each Lord's Day, according to the custom of the ancient
Church of Christ, and to welcome all of God's children to share in the
sacrament with us at the Lord's table.

If you find yourself new in the Brockville area, we want to extend a warm
welcome and an invitation to join us in worship, for fellowship, and
perhaps to join with us in the ministry to which God is calling us in the
Seaway Valley.

We believe you will find Good Shepherd a loving family.  Our gracious God
and many welcoming brothers and sisters in Christ wait to share our lives
and the Good News of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ with you.  Please
join us for worship.
