| [Biography of Remus J. Lupin] * Caution Spoilers* Childhood:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: "I was a very small boy when I recieved the bite. My parents tried everything, but in those days there was no cure." It is estimated that Remus was born in 1960. Other than this estimated year of birth, we know little of Remus's childhood. By using the quote above and information from his adult life,we can guess that he was probably a lonely child. School Days::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: If it wasn't for Dumbledore,attending Hogwarts would not have been possible. He ensured the safety of Remus and the other students by planting the Whomping Willow on the school grounds over the entrance to the Shrieking Shack, where Remus was taken every full moon. "...I was happier than I had ever been in my life. For the first time ever, I had friends, three great friends. Sirius Black... Peter Pettigrew... and, of course, your father, Harry - James Potter." While at Hogwarts Lupin grew to be best friends with Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew and James Potter. At first he tried to hide that fact that he was a werewolf from them,but eventually the figured it out for themselves. But instead of shunning Remus they proved themselves to be true friends and decided to take on transformations of their own. They taught themselves to become Animagi and every full moon they followed Remus to the Shrieking Shack and kept him company (werewolves only harm humans). Eventually they gave each other nicknames based on the animals they could transform into. Remus was known as "Moony",a werewolf. Sirius was called "Padfoot", a dog. James became "Prongs", a stag, and they called Peter "Wormtail", because he was a rat. Thus forming "The Marauders". The group of four were dedicated ti spreading mischief and creating havoc through-out Hogwarts. In his fifth year, Remus became a school prefect. The teachers hoped that he would be able to control his friends...But I guess that plan failed... But mostly we know he loved his time at school, so much so that he came back as a teacher later on in his adult life. Teaching At Hogwarts:::::::::::::::::::: Remus became Hogwart's Defence Against the Dark Arts professor in Harry's 3rd year. Despite the fact that his robes were rather chabby and he disappeared once in awhile due to "illness" all the students loved him (except maybe Slytherin) and he proved to be an excellent teacher. He never made a student feel bad about the strength of their abilities in Defence, but rather tried to build their confidence.. He was patient and fair, but he wasn't a pushover and took his responsibility seriously. Toward the end of the school year he is re-united with his school friend (whom he though was a murderer) Sirius Black, and he helps to explain to Harry how his parents died and why Sirius was accused of murder. Unfortunately, due to Snape telling the students about Remus's affliction, he put in his resignation and left Hogwarts once more. *tear* "Your the best Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher we've ever had! Don't go!" The Order of the Phoenix::::::::::::::::::::::::: In book five, The Order of the Pheonix, we discover that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is re-grouping and gaining power. We also discover that Remus is part of the Order when he comes to the Dursley's house with the rest of the Advance Guard to take Harry to the Order's Headquarters (12 Grimmauld Place). Remus (and Sirius) explain to Harry what exactly the Order is . During book five Remus isn't around most of the time (doing work for hte Order)but when he is home he is usually reading or chatting with other members of the Order. Sadly, at the end of book 5 Remus must suffer once more when his only remaining school friend (Sirius) dies in combat. We never really find out how this has affected him (Remus is usually extremely reserved with his feelings), but we do know that he remains part of the Advance Guard and asks Harry to "Keep in touch". |
