Brief Story of Int'l Students Arriving at UMM

Today is Tuesday, August 24th of 2004! I got up early to do some errands for a friend-housemate (Tom C.) of mine, who helped picked up some international students attending UMM this Fall. I was up till 1am listening to his stories on his "rendevous" trip in picking them up from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. I wasn't really suprised to his story as I've heard (directly and indirectly) similar stories of international students' "wild" voyage to Morris.

Tom left around 6:30am yesterday morning with a current int'l student (Kyung-Korea) to the cities. He and Kyung left early to do some personal errands before picking up the int'l students at the airport. The first student they had to meet was around 12:10, but her flight came a little later and they met her at the baggage claim an hour later. In fact, I was on the phone with Tom (using my cell) as they met her. That first of 3 meetings went well! However, the second meeting around 3pm didn't go as well. The second person they were suppose to meet had a rough time in tyring to meet. The third person they were suppose to meet later got their plane delayed because she missed her flight from some state in the west coast. Tom and the rest of the int'l students had to wait in the airport long for this person, who would never come. Then they had a last minute plane arrival of another unexpected international student. This one is from Ghana, Africa! They too missed this particular international student. It would be around 12 midnight when I saw Tom come home, which I was up (praying) to make sure they all made it. He told me 2 of the 4 int'l students made it! Tom just helped the other 2 get situated in the residential halls as they arrived in Morris late last evening.

THis morning I had to drop the residential hall key of the third student that didn't make it last night. I gave it to Sharon at the CIP office, which I told them a little of what happened last night according to Tom. Sharon and Tom M. told me they hope to see those int'l students come in today. An int'l student from Malawi is scheduled to come also with another UMM faculty member. What a story....this continues later on....!
