SONGWRITING
I have a talent for writing song lyrics, and thats not being big-headed,i know i am good at it and would love it as a career.
I have been writing song lyrics since the age of 14,very silly ones to start with but as the years went on my lyrics were becoming very well thought out.I joined the ISA(International Songwriters Association)at age 17,and they have been invaluable help to me.
My brother plays guitar and we made some rough 4-track demos of some of my songs just to see how they sounded with music. He did some music on guitar and keyboards and i sung the lyrics.I can get by with singing but i am limited, but it does come in handy to keep practicing .This was around 1990-94..he now plays in a rock and pop covers band.He is a damn good guitarist(dont let your head swell Mike!)and it helped to see that my lyrics were good enough for songs.
Anyway, last year i finally had the money to get some professional demos done for two of my songs. The ISA has their own recording company Musical Records. You give them a rough version of your songs, with lyrics and maybe a style you want them to sound like or a group.I submitted two songs that Mike and i recoreded on the 4-track.`What Sets You free?` and `More Than A Friend`,the style i wanted was a kind of Bon Jovi sound.they were pop songs but having a rocky feel. When the demos came back about 6 months later, they were superb. The singer even sounded like Jon Bon Jovi!.So i am now in the process of trying to attract Publishers for my songs. If they like them or can find an artist who wants to record them,it would be brilliant. What i would like ideally is to find a Publisher who likes a song and wants more like a contract.
All this is a long shot i know, but i have to try,i love writing lyrics and it would be great to turn my talent into a career.Earning money for something i really take pleasure out of.
