GOOD MORNING CALL Volume 2 Summary
|
Nao is preparing obento (*lunch that Japanese often takes to school) for her and Hisashi. She forgives Hisashi for what he said the previous night. As she is lost in her own thoughts, Hisashi tells her to hurry if she doesn't want to be late. He reminds her not to talk to him at school. Nao insists on telling him that greetings at least won't look suspicious, but Hisashi's already made up his mind. He leaves to school without letting Nao a chance to give him his obento.
Nao is on her way to school with her friends Marina and Mit-chan. Marina informs that Hisashi is one of the best 3 in their school. He is a "legend" because he's part of the top best 3 for three consecutive years. That's why he belongs to every girl, and according to the rule, no girl is allowed to date with him.
Lunch-time, Hisashi's classroom:
Kengo reproaches Hisashi for not having called him once he moved. He's
been waiting with new video games planning to play during holidays. He
suggests then to go to Hisashi's apartment after school. Suddenly, Nao
appears at the door looking for Hisashi. Completely panicked, Hisashi
catches Nao and takes her out of the classroom, at his mates'interrogative
faces. Once on the roof of the building, he yells out at Nao for not following
his orders. The girl explains she wanted to give him his obento. What's
done is done! And his his stomach is yelling. He decides to skip school
and to have his lunch with Nao. While eating, they're observed by three
girls who wonder who's the girl keeping him company.
Nao is on her way back from school with her two friends. Marina suggests to pay Nao a visit, but she changes her mind when Nao tells her Hisashi won't be at home because of his job. A fight between Marina and Mit-chan occurs, because Mit-chan disapproves Marina's behavior. Irritated, Marina leaves them. Mit-chan confesses to Nao he's in love with Marina. Then they separate and Nao continues walking on her way home without noticing three pairs of eyes looking at her.
Another day...
Nao is walking in the streets. She's looking all around her. She encounters
Hisashi who wonders what she's doing. She tells him that she feels like
somebody watching her... maybe a shy boy in love with her!? Hisashi responds
her that only a monkey maniac can be interested in her.
At school, one of the three girls (mentioned previously) introduces herself as Hisashi's classmate and informs Nao that Hisashi is waiting for her. Kengo assists the scene. He is surprised to see Hisashi in their classroom whereas he's supposed to have appointed Nao somewhere else.
Nao is tripped up by another one of the three girls. She falls and hurts her forehead. The three girls demand an account concerning Hisashi. They remind Nao that Hisashi belongs to every girl. Fortunately, Hisashi interfers and claims that he's dating Nao, at Nao's dismay and the three girls' despair. Later, in the sick room, Hisashi dresses Nao's wound. He explains that it's preferable for them to pretend they're dating, so that it doesn't look suspicious if they go home together. Then, he recommends her to be careful on her way home because he has to go working directly after school.
In the evening, Marina stands at Nao's door, demanding for some explanation. Nao's face turns pal...

Marina reproaches Nao for not having trusted her long time best friend and keep her dating with Hisashi a secret. She states that Nao shouldn't fear for her friendship because of Hisashi. She proudly says that she's already noticed Nao's crush on Hisashi anyway. Nao, unable to bear it anymore, confesses to her friend that Hisashi and her are just pretending they're dating. However, Marina stands by what she's just said about Nao's crush on Hisashi. Then, she leaves, as Hisashi is just back home. He gives to Nao a Band Aid box he bought on his way home, for her wound. Later, Nao is in her room, meditating about her feelings towards Hisashi. Suddenly, Hisashi's telephone rings. As Hisashi is in the bathroom, the answering machine picks up the message from a girl named Nanako, who thanks Hisashi for spending some time with her. Nao is very surprised. She asks her mate for some details. Hisashi tells her he was asked to go to the cinema by Nanako, his boss' daughter.
Very curious to know more about the "Nanako" girl, Nao pays a visit to Hisashi at his workplace. There, she satisfies her curiosity by meeting Nanako. Then, Hisashi and Nao are surprised to have the old owner of their apartment as a visitor of the shop. The old lady is happy to see the two young people in good terms, since it's preferable while living together. Too late! Nanako knows about it... Hisashi now fears for his job. But Nanako relieves him by promising not to talk about it to his father on one condition: she wants to go to Hisashi's apartment.
When Hisashi is not there, poor Nao experiences Nanako's other side. The cute and nice girl becomes a little pest. Once Nanako is gone, Nao learns that Hisashi has been asked to live on the second floor of Nanako's house. At that moment, Nao realizes she fears to lose Hisashi. She realizes her own feelings: she loves him.

Nao and Marina are at a cafe talking about Hisashi. Now that Nao is aware of her own feelings towards Hisashi, Marina advises her friend to fight against her rival to get Hisashi's favor.
Since she is considered as Hisashi's girlfriend at school, Nao decides to behave as it at school. On their way home, they meet Yuririn who is on her way to Nao and Hisashi's apartment. Hisashi avoids Yuririn's company by pretending he has to go to Kengo's house. Nao understands he's still in love with Yuririn. At home, Nao says she envies Yuririn, and she has no chance to stand face to her. Yuririn understands Nao is in love with Hisashi and just can't hide her joy. Their discussion is interrupted by Nanako who was spying them. She says Nao doesn't stand a chance because she has no charm. Then, a fight follows between Nanako and Yuririn. They are interrupted by Hisashi complaining about their mess. Nanako reports him that Nao and Yuririn are bullying her. At the same time, she suggests him to move to her house. Hisashi officially refuses it, claiming that he likes the way he's living. Then, he pushes Nanako out of his apartment, advising her not to have a "pest" side if she wants to make friends someday. Then, he also sends away Yuririn. Relieved by Hisashi's decision, Nao suggests to have dinner. But before that, Hisashi tries to tell her something that makes him feel uncomfortable. Nao's heart beats fast. At last, Hisashi informs her that her fastner is opened. Nao feels blue: their way to "love" is so far away...

Finally, Nao succeeds in convincing Hisashi to go to school together, since they are believed to be a "couple". But, the next morning, Hisashi goes to school alone leaving behind him a panicked and late Nao.
In the classroom, Nao and Marina are talking about Nao and Hisashi's relationships. A letter falls from Nao's desk. It's a loveletter from a boy named Jun Abe, who gives her an appointment at the back of the school building. Marina informs her friend that Jun Abe is well-known for being the "king of love declaration". She explains that the nick-name means he is used to easily falling in love and declaring his love to girls.
In the afternoon, as Hisashi picks up Nao at her classroom, he meets Marina who sees a chance here to test Hisashi's feelings by giving him details about Nao's lover and the appointment's place. At the same time, Nao is facing Jun Abe. The boy doesn't have the time to finish his declaration; he is interrupted by Nao's refusal. She explains that she is Hisashi's girlfriend (even if it's just pretending). Jun Abe feels gloomy by knowing he can't rivalize with Hisashi. Nao encourages him by telling him he can be appreciated by a girl and cheer him up. then, she returns to her classroom. Instead of finding Marina, she finds Hisashi. On their way home, Hisashi tries to ask her about that Jun Abe, but he just can't do it.
The following morning, Nao is deceived to have to go to school all alone, because Hisashi is ill and has to stay in bed. In a classroom, Mitsuishi and Jun Abe are talking. Jun Abe is surprised to see that Mitsuishi is a good friend of Nao. Mitsuishi informs him that Hisashi and Nao are just pretending to go out together. In the afternoon, Jun abe asks her for some explanations. Fearing for her secret to be heard by everyone, Nao pulls Jun Abe until her apartment. There, he tells he was touched by Nao's cheering words, and that he won't give up on her since she's just pretending to be Hisashi's girlfriend. Nao tells him she's actually in love with Hisashi. Her words kill Jun Abe who leaves sadly the place. Suddenly, Noa hears the sound of an opening door. She realizes that Hisashi was actually at home...
*****
She thought Hisashi was working. He tells her he prefered to stay home because of his illness. Worried, she asks him if he listened to everything she said. He answers he was sleeping and he only heard her saying she was in love with him. Nao is totally panicked. She is just reassured to know that Hisashi thinks it was her tip to make Jun Abe give up on her.
Next day...
Marina gives some information about Jun Abe: it's a boy who has made declaration
of love to 14 girls. By hearing that, Nao tries to speak to him during
lunch-time. They don't have much time to talk, since Hisashi comes to
pick his lunch. While eating, Nao speaks about Jun abe to Hisashi. this
one doesn't understand how one can go out with a girl he's not in love
with.
Yuririn is paying a visit to Hisashi at his workplace. Jun Abe, who is there, feels angry at first, thinking Hisashi was wooing such a cute girl while already having Nao. He wants to buy something but realizes he's forgotten to take his wallet. Yuririn just suggests him to lend him some money and gives him her visit card. While looking at the card she just gave him, he thinks Yuririn is Hisashi's sister.
Next day at school... Nao and her friends are surprised to see a happy Jun Abe who claims he's in love. Jun Abe is sitting alone looking at the little picture on Yuririn's card. Nao arrives and tells him she knows Yuririn and suggests him to come with her tomorrow to meet Yuririn in order to give her back the money.
Yuririn, Nao and Abe are walking. As Nao and Yuririn are talking, Abe learns that Yuririn is actually married with Hisashi's brother. On next morning, Abe waits for Hisashi on Nao and Hisashi's usual way to school. He takes hisashi apart and apologizes for having been an obstacle in his relationships with Nao. Then he leaves.
On their way to school, Nao remembers Yuririn's words: Hisashi will treasure the girl who'll become his girlfriend. By remembering that, Nao can't do anything but shows a smiling face.
