Birthday Time
In this month's website:
Happy fall everyone! September was an exciting month for me! The big thing this month was my 8th birthday! My Grandma and Poppa came and my Auntie Michelle flew from South Carolina to surprise me. I had a backwards party with my friends! Everyone wore their clothes backwards and we played some games. I got lots of nice gifts, but the biggest one was a piano! We bought a used spinet and I'm going to start piano lessons soon!
This month I started sports and swimming classes at the YMCA. After 5 years of ballet, I decided to try jazz dance this year. I signed up for cub scouts again this year. I'm going to be a Bear Scout. I also went to a fishing derby with some friends. I caught two trout, but I didn't eat them. I gave them to my friend.
In homeschool I've been learning about Ancient Greece. I've read about the gods and goddesses in Greek myths. I learned how the people lived back then. They built temples for their gods. I have also learned about geometry because the Greeks studied it too. In science I've been studying the solar system. The Greeks named constellations after people in their myths.
The weather has gotten a little cooler and lots of birds have been coming back to my feeders. The bluejays, juncos, chickadees and brown-headed cowbirds are starting to come back. I didn't see them all sumer.
This month's website has links to lots of pages so be sure to check them all out. You can sign my guestbook again, even if you already signed it. Let me know which parts you like or any suggestions to make my website better.

   This Month:
What's the Big Idea, Ben Franklin?
by Jean Fritz
Here are two short poems that I wrote this month.
Are you an inventor? Would you like to read about a famous American inventor? Then you should read, What's the Big Idea, Ben Franklin? This book is about Ben Franklin and his big ideas. This book explains that when Ben Franklin first had his big ideas not everybody liked them.
When Ben invented the lightening rod, nobody wanted it on their house because they thought that their house would be hit by lightening and burn down. Ben was so sure that he was right he put one on his own house. It worked perfectly!
This book will tell you about lots of Ben Franklin's different inventions. It made me think of becoming an inventor myself!
Fall

Brisk winds dance and play.
Leaves are falling to the ground.
Birds are seen in trees.
ZEUS
Thunderbolt, powerful
Battling, booming, bashing
All mortals are terrified

Gabrielle's Grab Bag
Gabrielle had a lot of fun this month. She started to go to reading time at the library. She also likes to read at home. She really likes Where's My Teddy by Jez Aborough. She has almost memorized it by heart! She has also memorized lots of songs. Her favorite one is still Do Re Mi. She not only sings it, she acts it out too.
She gets funnier every day. The funniest thing she says is, "Nicholas, don't have a bad attitude!" She tells me not to have a bad attitude and it works!
