Nicholas' News - December 2002
Happy Holidays
Return to Nicholas' News Home Page
December was an exciting month! I hope you had a happy holiday.
One of the fun things I did this month was reading to some therapy dogs at the library. I read them all kinds of dog books and they liked it alot. I also had fun cutting down a Christmas tree with my mom and Gabrielle. Our tree is not too big this year. It is only 7 1/2 feet tall! I had to help pull it back to the truck while my mom carried Gabrielle because it was really muddy and slushy.
We were supposed to go to the Franklin Institute but we had an ice storm that day. I hope we can try to go soon. We have had a lot of snow this month and I have been sledding quite a few times.Gabrielle likes to go sledding, too.
Christmas was wonderful at our house this year. I received lots of great gifts and got to spend time with my family. I learned to play Christmas songs on the piano so now I play them all day!

This month: Squanto: Friend of the Pilgrims
by Clyde Robert Bulla
This book is a biography about Squanto. Squanto was a Patuxet Indian from Massachusetts in the sixteen hundreds. Squanto sailed to England where he was in an Indian Show. A captain of a ship thought it would be cool to let people see an Indian. Squanto did not like it, but Squanto learned a lot about England. After a long time Squanto has a chance to return to Massachusetts. What will Squanto show and tell to his tribe? Find out what other adventures Squanto has by reading the book.
The author did a good job keeping the book exciting. I liked the book a lot. It was full of surprises and I didn't want it to end.
Gabrielle's Grab Bag
Gabrielle had a great month! She has memorized the song, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." She also has been singing lots of other Christmas songs. She loved picking out and decorating the tree.
One day when it rained really hard, Gabrielle, Mom and I went on a hiketo see some rapids where there is usually a little creek. She and I liked throwing sticks in the water and watching them shoot down the water.
Gabrielle has learned how to cut with scissors. She has used them to cut out pieces for the presents we made. She really loved getting presents. Gabrielle has a lot of new toys. Hope you do too!
