April brought us crazy weather! We've had days where we wore shorts and days where we shoveled snow. Even with the crazy weather we had a lot of fun this month. This month I went to an art class where I learned lots of new ways of weaving. I also went to the District Pinewood Derby races for the Cub Scouts in my area of the county. They used computers to tell who came in first, second, third, etc. I also started playing basketball at the YMCA this month. I am on the Yellow 2 team.
Right before Easter we had an egg hunt in our backyard. My mom hid over 300 eggs and Gabrielle, our friends and I found all of the eggs! It was a lot of fun.
The big news this month is that I was in the
Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper. A while ago, I wrote to Pennsylvania Governor Rendell to ask him to stop lowering the budgets for the libraries. Then one day, my mom took Gabrielle and I to the groundbreaking for the new Quakertown library. There was a reporter there who was doing a story on the budget cuts. She interviewed me because I knew about the budget. I was in the paper on Tuesday, April 22. You can read the article about it here: Philadelphia Inquirer (http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/states/pennsylvania/counties/bucks_county/5685461.htm)
It has been a busy month in school, too. I have started long division in math.I am still learning about machines in science. In language arts, I am learning all the steps to writing a good story. I have been reading about how authors and illustrators get their ideas and make their books. I have also been finishing up learning about the Native Americans from the Pacific Northwest and am starting to learn about the tribes from the Arctic Tundra areas like the Inuit.

Wishes, Kisses and Pigs
by Betsy Hearne
I have been writing some limericks this month. Here are a few silly poems.
Have you ever wished that you could turn your brother or sister into an animal? Have you ever thought about what would happen if you did? In the book, Wishes, Kisses and Pigs, Louise Tolliver finds out what can happen when she turns her brother into a pig!
Louise finds out how strong the magic in wishes can be. The first time Louise tries to turn her brother back into a human she doesn't get it quite right. Pretty soon, the local sheriff notices the extra pig at Louise's house.
The sheriff and his brother come up with a sneaky plan to try to get the pig for the Labor Day Picnic Barbecue! Louise will have to work fast to turn everything back to normal and she may only have one wish left! Can she do it in time? Will it all work out right? What other surprises may come from her wish?  Get
Wishes, Kisses and Pigs by Betsy Hearne to find out!
Burple
There once was a man dressed in purple.
But all he could do was go "burple."

He drank too much soda
On his trip to Dakota.

So now he must see Dr. Zurple.
Swimming?
One day I went to the pool.
I was supposed to be going to school.

While I was there
I saw a big bear...

He ate me up!!

This is not Mexican Independence Day as some people might think. This day celebrates when the small Mexican Army defeated the French Army. They kept the army from taking Mexico City and Napolean from taking control of Mexico.
Celebrate this day by eating some Mexican food, listening to Mariachi music, breaking a pinata and making some Mexican paper flowers or papel picado.
Here is another websites that I like and thought you might like to check out.
May 15 - Total Lunar Eclipse
Funschool site -
(http://www.funschool.com)

This website has fun arcade games, activites to do on-line, things you can print and download, and learning games and activities listed by grade level.
The moon will pass into the Earth's shadow and not receive any light from the sun for part of the night from May 15th into the early morning of May 16th.The eclipse can be seen from Western Europe, North and South America. Not everyone is going to be able to see the whole eclipse. If you live in the Easter U.S. you will be able to see the whole eclipse from about 10:00PM on May 15th till about 1:00AM on May 16th. As you go farther west, the moon will rise already partially eclipsed. On the far west of the country, the moon will be completely eclipsed by the time it gets dark and the moon rises. Unfortunately, anybody in Alaska will not be able to see the eclipse. By the time the moon rises there, the eclipse will be over because the moon will be out of the Earth's shadow. Gabrielle's Grab Bag
Gabrielle is really growing up! She just started swimming class and it's right after mine. I get to watch her at the end of her class. I was scared at first to see her go into the pool, but she's doing great. Gabrielle has also been going every week to her dance and tumbling classes. She loves them.
Gabrielle also loves helping in the garden. She likes to dig and look for worms, and she calls them all "Wormy." She takes good care of them and then puts them back all together so they can be a family! Now that the weather is nicer, Gabrielle has also been playing in the sandbox.
Gabrielle likes playing on the computer, especially at the Nick Jr. website. She can play almost all the games by herself! She even knows how to sign off the internet and shut down the computer!
