I'm sorry that this newsletter edition of Nicholas' News has taken so long. I kept a journal the whole time we were in Europe and I hoped to use it to write my articles. Unfortunately, I left my journal in the seat pocket of the airplane on our trip from France back to Iceland! My mom called all the airports we were at, but no one has found it. I've had to write the whole journal over again from what I remember of our trip! It's not the same as the original journal, but it will have to do. I was really disappointed, but it is better than losing the pictures we took.
Even though I lost the journal, the trip was still amazing! We spent 4 days in Iceland, mostly in Reykjavik which is the capital. Then we flew to France for 3 weeks and traveled from the the Alsace region to Brussels the capital of Belgium, back to France and into the Normandy region and finally to Paris. I wanted to use this edition of my web newsletter to share some of our pictures and things we did. I hope you enjoy reading about our trip! |

I've also been very busy since we returned. I went camping with a Boy Scout Troop and we visited the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.. We also went to see the changing of the guards at Arlington National Cemetery. I am also working on an international Scout project to help the Scouts of France raise money to give to the Scouts of Haiti for clean up and helping victims of Hurricane Jeanne in September. |

|
Gabrielle loved going to Iceland and France. Gabrielle's favorite things in Iceland were going swimming, going to the bell tower and driving the whale watching boat. She also liked riding on all the buses.
In France Gabrielle loved going to Monkey Mountain! She loved seeing the real monkeys and having them eat from her hand. Gabrielle also liked the pastries and chocolate we had in France. Her other favorite was going to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Gabrielle was a great traveler and she pulled her suitcase by herself at all the airports. She also liked riding on the Metro trains around Paris and Brussels.
She had such a great time that she asks every week if we can go back to Iceland and France on the weekend! |

On our trip we enjoyed some hot chocolate. In an Iceland cafe, hot chocolate was 420 Krona per large cup. In Paris, we went to a cafe with hot chocolate that tasted like melted chocolate bars. It cost 12.40 euro per pitcher. A pitcher held 2 1/2 large cups.
When we were on vacation, the exchange rate was:
$1 = 67 Icelandic Krona (ISK)
$1.27 = 1 euro
