brief history:

The Faculty Of Pharmacy Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan is recognized as one of the prestigious institutions of pharmacy in Pakistan. This faculty is established as department of pharmacy in January 1975 one year after the foundation of  Gomal University. Formerly it was housed in the temporary building of government science college new block, Dera Ismail Khan and then shifted to the science block new campus. The department was later shifted to the present pharmacy block in 1983.

Recently another block has been added to its building. the department is recognized as a well-reputed institutions not only within the country but also abroad, the number of local as well foreigner students has considerably increased. The department of pharmacy was raised to the status of faculty of pharmacy in February 1990.

academic facilities available:

seminar library:

Library holds a key position in education at all levels. Keeping the significance of the library in view faculty has a medium sized library housing about 3300 volumes of text and reference books. The library gets international and local journals for research to keep abreast of the latest development in pharmaceutical sciences. The library administered by fully qualified and experienced librarian who are duly assisted by the ancillary staff extending all sorts of services to the readers.

laboratories:

There are six laboratories equipped with necessary instruments for practical and research. The faculty have four halls for didactic purposes, with a well equipped instruments rooms and stores.

Research grants:

The faculty has received a number of research projects and grants from the following agencies for research and purchase of equipments and books etc.

	Pakistan science foundations grants in the form of equipment and research.
	A grant of equipments from the government of Japan under the 19-yen credit program.
	Books and journals received from various agencies like British council as donation.
	Grant for research from PTCL,HEC,and ministry of health.

The teaching staff is actively engaged in research and has produced about number of research papers in international and national journals. some of the research being pursued at the faculty include:

	Entero hepatic recycling of estrogen its rebalance with female fertility.
	Effect of kalongi,honey on the blood profile of human beings.
	Formulation and release of some important drugs from various suppository base.
	Controlled/sustained released dosage formulations and their evaluation.
	Blood cholesterol lowering studies with pectins.
	Protective role of glutathione and hepatotoxicity induced by selective compounds.
	Enzyme purification and separation techniques.
	Etiology of malarial parasite resistance towards drug.

extra-curricular activities:

In order to build up a balance personality facilities for extra-curricular activities exist in the faculty. Students actively participate in following extra-curricular activities.

sports week:

Health is wealth and for healthy body sports are necessary, keeping this point in view a sports week (annually) conducted by the students. Games which are played by the students are; VollyBall,FootBall,Cricket,Hockey,Basketball,Tabletannis,Badmiton. Competitions were organized with sports man spirit and in friendly atmosphere, the entire competitions ended smoothly and at the end of week prize distributed among the winners.

Exhibitions:

In order to expose the latent talent of the students different types of exhibitions such as painting exhibitions, drug exhibitions are also conducted in the faculty, students and teachers are equally participate in these exhibitions.

Picnic:

One day picnic is allowed by the Dean on Sunday or other gazetted holiday under the supervision of responsible faculty teachers. Students collect their contributions for picnic. The university buses are provided for travel within the city.

Medical camp:

Medical camp is also organized by the students  within the faculty for free physical check up of university as well as faculty students. Student and teachers worked side by side in this camp.

Seminar:

The faculty periodically organizes seminars on various topics related to the medical and pharmaceutical field. These seminars provide the opportunity for both students and teachers to gain latest knowledge from local and non local scholars and experts. Besides these eminent scholar of the country are invited to elaborate their knowledge.

Industrial tour:

Industrial tour is the very important part of pharmacy education, so keeping its importance in view ,an industrial tour is arranged for the final year students of the faculty under the supervision of teacher concerned. In this tour students have the opportunity to visit multinational and national pharmaceuticals industries of pakistan.
