A brief description of each character and a few key facts about them.
FANTINE
1796 - 1823

Description:
"She was a pretty blonde with fine teeth. For dowry, she had gold and pearls; but the gold was on her head and the pearls were in her mouth... A brilliant face, delicate profile, eyes of deep blue, heavy eyelashes, small, arching feet... a gaiety tempered with dreaminess; sculptured and exquisite - this was Fantine, and you could imagine underneath this dress and these ribbons a statue, and inside this statue a soul."

Bio:
Fantine was born in the small town of Montreuil-sur-Mer, and moved to Paris when she was fifteen to become a seamstress. She met a student named Felix Tholomyes, with whom she had a daughter, Cosette. But Tholomyes left, and Fantine returned to her hometown, hoping to find work there. She left Cosette at an inn along the way, run by the Thenardiers, whom she sent money to care for the girl. Fantine found employment at a factory, but when the Foreman discovered her illegitemate child, he fired her. Desperate for money, she sold everything she had, then became a prostitute. She became ill, and was brought to hostpial by the Mayor, where she died.
