Oldenburgs have helped form two breeds. The Friesias and the Dutch Groningen. It is also "brother breed" to the East Friesan. The Oldenburg had many breeds help form it they include: Friesian, English halfbred, Arab(Arabian), Barb, Early Thoroughbred, Cleveland Bay, Yorkshire Coach Horse, Norman/ Anglo Norman, Hanoverian, Trakehner, and the Modern Thoroughbred.
The Oldenburg's comformation gives the impression of a quality halfbred of a heavy type.
It's head is workmanlike with a thick but well-arched throat. Also is longish with pointed ears, a slightly convex profile and flaring nostrils.
The colors are mainly black, brown and bay.
The height is normally from 16.2 to 17.2 hand high.
It orginated in Germany in the 17th century.
It is used from saddle, harness, dressage, excellent jumper, all purpose riding and a elegant powerful coach horse.
It's blood is warm and it's environment is temerate, controlled.
The Oldenburg's character is equable, entergetic horse with excellet temperment.
It's apperance is a ram's nose, proud stance with strong neck and pwerful body. It has a broad and muscular quarters, it's back is slightly weak but body is generally rounded. Now with thoroughbred blood has a more noble apperance.
It's action is light, extended and spring like.
