As you all know by now, that I deliver Motor Homes to dealerships all over our beautiful country! Not to long ago when Golden-Oldies2 had a little newsletter sent out once a week, Doris ( room owner ) had ask me to write a small column in the news letter about my travels. I happily agreed to do so! Today I want to share one of those experiences with you!
My Driving partner and team member, both of us driving a 40 foot motor home, were on our way to Texas and we went thru the beautiful state of Arkansas! It was in the late afternoon, and about time to stop for fuel, and get a bite to eat. Most of the places we stop for fuel is a Truck Stop simply because there is more room to move those big RV's around. And you sure cant take one of these babies thru MacDonalds drive thru! After a while of driving, you look for other places to eat besides truck-stops! If you're a truck driver, you know exactly what I'm talking about! So, after we fuel up, we were back on the road looking for that little restaurant, kinda out of the way, with truck parking. These little country restraunts have the closest thing to home cooked food! We found one, right off the interstate! We pulled in the parking lot, drove around the huge pot-holes, and finely found space to park our units, without parking in a crater. As I got out of my RV, I looked at the restaurant and wondered if it was opened or not, because of the tall weeds and shrubs surrounding the building! The restaurant was open and we went inside. I usually do my look around for cleanliness, and take note how we are greeted. The restaurant was spotless! With nice plastic tablecloths on the tables. The next thing I saw, as we made our way to one of the tables, was the storage room door hanging only by the top hinge, so it was kinda crooked hanging there! As we sat down at the table, I noticed the chairs were the folding kind, and after a while, you know how they get, you got to brace yourself or you slide off under the table! So I firmly planted my feet against the table legs. The Tv was on, with some sports channel, and I noticed it didn't have a real good picture, thats when I noticed it had a clothes hanger stuck in the top for an antenna! The waitress came to our table with 2 plastic glasses of water and handed us each a menu. Now these plastic glasses of water had to hold at least 1/2 gallon each. You had to use both hands to get a drink! The menu was hand written on notebook paper and laminated! By now this place had really gotten interesting! I looked at the menu, and decided on a dressed hamburger, and an order of onion rings, which I was going to share with Cy. Now Cy being the motcho guy he is, with his motcho appitite, wanted a double dressed hamburger! The waitress came back to take our order, an she appologized for not having any onion rings, because the daytime cook ran off with the freezer keys! But she informed me she had some tater-tots back there she could fix. I told her not to worry about the onion rings, and a few tater-tots would be great! And Cy orderd his double hamburger! lol As we sat there waiting on our dinner, the bus-boy went thru the storage room, kicking the lop-sided door. Well that answerd my question, why they didnt put the door back on the hinge! It probly has been put back on...several times! As we sat there, we heard the cook singing in the kitchen, which I thought was wonderful! This restaraunt didnt have central air, but they did have a big osculating fan that was standing at the end of the row of tables. I looked around at the ppl there and my eye cought this one man setting alone eating, I figured he was a truck driver. Then I notced him picking up his napkin off the floor, politley placeing it on his knee... and continued his dinner. This huge oscilating fan makes its round... and blows the napkin off this mans knee onto the floor, he picks up the napkin, politley places it on his knee and returns to enjoying his dinner. That dang fan made its swing again and I wanted to yell at the guy to grab his napkin, but it was too late, it landed on the floor again, and the man picked it up and politley spread it out on his knee! By now, I'm so tickled, I'm wondering if I can hold it in wihout busting a gut! lol Bout that time, here comes our waitress with our order. She serves me first, and OMG, what a bunch of tater-tots! I had enough to feed a family of five and some to take home too! She even served the hamburger on another plate, and what a hamburger it was!...This thing was huge! Then I watched her serve Cy his DOUBLE hamburger...My eyes bout popped out, and I heard Cy say " Lord have Mercy, One would have been enough" I asked him, trying not to loose it, How was he going to get his mouth around it ? He says.." dunno, but guess I'll take it one layer at a time!" LOLOL..He got a 7 course meal in one sandwitch ! By now as I watch the man and his napkin, and the pickles flying out the back side of Cy's 7 course Hamburger, and I'm looking down at my mound of tater-tots, with my feet firmly planted against the table legs, I get this tickled feeling in the pit of my stomach, the kind you cant hold in!... and I loose it !!...I laughed so dang hard, tears were rolling! The man at the next table finished his dinner, wadded up his napkin, layed it on the table and left.... here come that fan, blu off the wadded napkin, and I lost it again!..I laughed so hard. Who ever would have thought a wadded up napkin could be so funny..lollol We finished our dinner, and I picked up the napkin, along with the pickles off the floor, and placed them on the table and set that 1/2 gallen of water on top of it!! That was the Best hamberger We have ever had out there on the road, and the entertainment was priceless!! The ppl in Arkensas treat you like family! I love going through there ! That nite I said my prayers and thanked God for showing us that lttle restaraunt, because it sure made our day! Wish I could have had all you guys with me that day! Anyways, this is just one story, there is so much out there, and 99% of it is all good!! But it's always good to get home, and talk to all my chat friends, whom I love dearly! You guys have a good week-end, and stay safe! (((( Hugs ))))) to all !! Judy ( Mystiq ) |
