Hockey
The Salt Lake Maple Leafs organization was founded to cater to the elite player who is on his way to Junior "A" or College hockey. Our program is for the serious student of hockey. It consists of a comprehensive hockey development program including the following:
Game Schedule - a 50-60 game schedule, including 32 league games, 4-10 playoffs, and 10-15 tournament/exhibition games;
On ice training - typically 3-5 hours of practice per week plus a two week training camp at the beginning of the season;
Off ice training - supervised weight training, plyometrics, agility and flexibility training, plus aerobic/anaerobic conditioning are provided;
Mental development - chalk talk and video analysis for roughly 2 hours per week.
Housing / Education
All out-of-state Maple Leaf players will be living in chaperoned team apartments. The apartments are located in Orem, Utah. The cost is $300 per month for room and board. Team apartments are furnished, but do not include bedding, towels, other toiletries, or entertainment items such as tvs, computers, or stereos.
Breakfast and dinner will be provided when the team is is in town. The players must furnish their own lunches and meals on the road.
All players are required to either hold a job or attend school. There are several Colleges and Universities in the Salt Lake and Provo/Orem areas. If you are still of High School age, you will attend a local High School in Orem, more details on this can be provided upon request.
Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City is the home of the Utah Grizzlies IHL team. It is also the host of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Many exciting hockey events will be occuring during this season such as pre-Olympic tournaments, Olympic training events, etc. Several of the hockey venues in Salt Lake will be utilized in the official Olympic Games.
All Maple Leaf home games and practices will be held in Salt Lake City. Home games will be played during the first half of the season, and away games will be played during the second, as ice will be limited due to the Olympic games. Practices will be held as normal during the Olympics.
Salt Lake is also home of the Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Stingers baseball team, and the Utah Starzz WNBA team. Salt Lake also has other entertainment such as the Hogle Zoo, Lagoon Amusement Park, Hansen Planetarium, University of Utah Natural History Museum, etc.
