Dragonballz Budokai is the first playstation 2 Z game and it is not as good as you think it might have been.  It took the developer three years to make this game and all they have to show for it is a very well done story mode.  Now if they would have put as much effort into the gameplay this game could have been solid.  The games controls are very simple because the developer wanted everyone to be able to play this game.  That was a bad move because not everyone likes Dragonballz and plays video games.  They should have thought about the average gamer and made a fighing game that could rival Soul Calibur.  I guess fans of DBZ were expecting to much from this game which is why it ends up being dissappointing.  There are a few things that this game does do right.  Like a mentioned before the story mode in this game is very well done.  They re-animated all of the important scenes of DBZ with the in game graphics.  It looks remarkable well  and it is convincing enough to get non dbz fans hooked into the story.  The games story mode spans three sagas from the series and it is done perfectly.  Now the actual fighting is a little sluggish.  You can input a command like p, p, k, k,  and watch the move being done even after you have finished entering the move.  Also this game is way to easy master which makes this game very boring to play after a couple of weeks.  Now the only real bad thing with this game is that it fails to capture the speed of show.  And if you are a fan of DBZ you know what I am talking about.  Hopefully DBZ budokai 3 will give dbz fans what they wanted from this game.  If you don't already own this game then just wait for the new one coming out in a couple of weeks.
