During the Heisei era of Godzilla's run, Minilla made a comeback as Godzilla Junior.  Junior's debut was as Baby Godzilla in 1993's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.  An expedition finds an egg in a nest where the mutated Pteranodon Rodan has hatched.  Protecting what it considers it's brother, Rodan attacks the scientists who are threatening to take the egg away from it's nest, until Godzilla shows up and challenges the flying reptile itself.  The egg is taken from the island and back to Japan to be studied.  Once there, the egg hatches into what is obviously not a pteranodon, but a tiny, human-sized, baby Godzilla.  Godzilla, in search of his offspring, and Rodan, in search of his brother, terrorize Japan in hopes of finding the newborn baby.  They are both challenged by G-Force's giant robot Mechagodzilla and companion ship Garuda.  Rodan is conquered to near death, however Godzilla puts on a more lasting fight.  Using the biology learned from the baby Godzilla to it's advantage, Mechagodzilla kills Godzilla.  Upset by it's loss, the baby Godzilla cries to it's brother Rodan, who hears the hurt in it's little bellow.  With it's last ounce of strength, Rodan transfers his life energy into Godzilla, who gets up, revived, and destroys Mechagodzilla and Garuda.  The baby follows Godzilla into the ocean, following his father into his next adventure.

In 1994's
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Baby Godzilla grew up into Little Godzilla, more into the size of his 60's counterpart.  Godzilla and Little Godzilla are living on Birth Island at the time when the space beast SpaceGodzilla comes to Earth to challenge the real Godzilla it was cloned from.  SpaceGodzilla entombs Little Godzilla in a cage of crystals, engaging the King of the Monsters.  Godzilla follws the space demon back to Japan where he beats it in final battle, releasing the little tike.

Godzilla's offspring grew further in 1995's Heisei finale,
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.  Mutated by the destrction of Birth Island, Godzilla Junior has grown into near adulthood.  Junior is lured into the mainland to do battle with the monsterous Destoroyah.  After a long and brutal battle, Junior overcomes the beast.  But as his back is turned, Destoroyah mutates into a larger monster and kills Junior.  Enraged by his spawn's death and overpowered by the desturction of Birth Island, Godzilla challenges Destoroyah and the demon is ultimately defeated.  As Godzilla's condition reaches critical mass, Godzilla meltsdown as G-Force attempts to contain the damage.  The attempt is successful, however the intense radiation revives Junior.  Junior rises from the ashes that were once Tokyo and bellows into the night, now a full grown Godzilla.

The 1998 American
Godzilla film, made a slight homage to the legacy of Minilla.  In the film, the Godzilla featured (now known amung fans as a different creature named Zilla) was asexual, and layed over 200 eggs which hatched into hundreds of baby Godzillas.  Like the Heisei era Baby Godzilla started out, they were all relativly human-sized.

Minilla returned in 2004 back in what was, more or less, his original design for the 50th anniversary feature
Godzilla:  Final Wars.  Minilla is portrayed as a mysterious, human-sized creature found by a farmer and his grandson.  The farmer and the boy take Minilla across the country to watch Godzilla do battle with various creatures which are controlled by the Xillian alien race.  Finally, after Godzilla defeats the combined might of Rodan, Anguirus, and King Ceasar, Minilla lets out a brief fire ring of celebration then, unexplicably I might add (though a cute reference to Godzilla's Revenge), the tyke grows to full monster size in an instant.  Minilla doesn't cross paths with his father until the very end, right as Godzilla is about to kill his (then unknown, human allies).  Minilla steps in front of him and holds out his arms, warning his tempered father to stop and just let them be.  Godzilla agrees, and leads his son back to the ocean.  Right before heading out into the sunset, Minilla lets out one mighty blast of traditional radiation breath, proving he is the heir to the throne.

Minilla's future in the Godzilla franchise is uncertain, but seeing how every era of the series has brought Godzilla a son in one form or another, it's more than likely we'll see the Prince of the Monsters again in the future as the franchise becomes reborn.
