Confessional Title- The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most Rating- iiiii |
| This Album Rocks! After downloading some of Dashboard Confessional's music online, I went out and bought the CD. It thoroughly impressed me with the Lyrical ability, and performance. Though many have said, perhaps accurately, that the music sounds whinny, I disagree. If you don't listen to the lyrics is sounds a bit tiresome, but with little attention I realized that the songs are more bitter than sad. If there is anything going wrong in your life, then you will want to pick up this album. It provides just enough somberness to invest the listener, while containing the anger - a seeming prerequisite now days- expected of a modern album. I love listening to the lyrics and rhythms of this album, and would suggest it. |
| Artist-Plumbum Title- Screw You Rating- ii |
| The first thing I noticed about this album was the fact that it was completely created by local talent. From the artwork on the cover to the recording company, it was all done locally. This adds a flavor to the cd that few others have. This cd has 11 tracks including one hidden song. The most emotionally stirring song on the album is "Tom the Drunk". This song is proceeded by "Yellin 'n Screamin", the most annoying song on the cd. While the vocals are a little scratchy at times, they fit in perfectly in certain songs like "Tom the Drunk" and "Generic 50's". Over all, this cd with its local origins, impressed me; in general I doubt it will make it into the Billboard's Top 100. |
| Author-Tracy Chevalier Title- Girl With A Pearl Earring Rating- iiiii |
| At the suggestion of a friend I bought this book. It was fortunate that I did, because otherwise I would have missed out on a great story. It was full of passion, both bridled and unbridled. It is the three year story of a 16 year old girl in Holland in the 1660's who works under the master painter Veermer. The story is compelling and keeps you motivated until the end. A page turner, you can't help but be drawn into the story and life of this girl. This is a great read! |
| Author-Edith
Wharton Title- The House of Mirth Rating- iiiii |
| WONDERFUL! This is an awesome book. The main character, Lily Bart is on a mission, she must find a husband to survive in early 1900's society. The plot revolves around her ability to conform to what society wants her to be. Throughout the book we are taken along as spectators to her "progress", which includes alienating the very people she strives to be around. In this work Edith Wharton manages to put together the most believable character I have ever read. Lily is fraught with all the weaknesses of humanity in the face of her ambition. In Lily we find someone who is not only identifiable, but someone we truly identify with on an intimate level. I finished the book in tears and realizing the same thing could happen to any of us. I watched the movie afterwards and can only recommend it to remind you of the haunting character Wharton creates. The book itself has its slow parts, but the main character makes up for any long descriptions. I also found the style she used to weave the plot together to be incredibly interesting. |
| Title- Final Fantasy The Sprits
Within Rating- iiii |
| This movie is a must see. If not for its story line then for the graphics. Graphically sensational, it is an animated movie that dosn't feel like and animated movie. There is all of the characterization of a regular movie, and twice the effects. The story is about a woman who must save the world from bad spirits by finding the good ones to compensate for the bad. There is a little romance, a lot of action, and awesome effects in "Final Fantasy". If you haven't already watched this movie you should, and if you have, watch it again. |
| Title-Mat Ek's "Swan
Lake" Performed By- The Cullberg Ballet Rating- iiii |
| This is a post modern remake of the classic "Swan Lake". Ok, I know some of you are starting to yawn, but hear me out. This isn't your typical ballet. It is bizarre! It takes the basic story line, adds sexual innuendoes that get downright crude, and throws in an Oedipus complex. Some of the actions in this ballet are down right raunchy. Once you get over your initial shock though, the ballet is actually quite enjoyable, and well done. If you are looking to get into ballet, or just want to impress someone, and this happens to be in town, definitely see it! |
