Assalam o
Alaikum
We
are pleased to present the first ever issue of our gazette
“Enlightenment”. The basic purpose of this gazette is to create
awareness about our religion Islam. We all know that Islam is not only a
religion, it is a comprehensive code of life. It is the only mode of
life that has relieved the suffering humanity in the past and can bring
peace and comfort to this world and to the lives of millions of its
followers.
However
the irony is that, while the West is moving toward understanding Islam,
we Muslims are drifting away from Islam. If we all make serious and
sincere efforts to understand Islam, we will find solutions to our
existing problems. It was under these circumstances that we decided to
come up something that can give all of us an opportunity to reflect upon
ourselves and our daily life transactions with others.
The
contents and articles have been selected to enlighten the readers with
the real essence of Islam, which truly is the best and simplest method
of life. Lastly, let us know how you feel about this gazette. Your suggestions and comments
will go a long way in helping us to improve upon the quality and
contents of “ENLIGHTENMENT”.

IBA has taken a lead in introducing a course on Islamic Finance. Dr. Imran
Usmani, a PhD in Islamic Finance, successfully conducted this course which
was attended by more than 45 students representing different programs of
IBA and some executives from the industry.
Meanwhile,
the historical judgment of the Supreme Court about Riba added to the
importance of this course. Now as the Financial System of the country is
undergoing a change and by June 2001 the Islamic System would replace the
existing un-just Interest based system. The need of well-trained
professionals in the field of Islamic Finance and Banking is strongly
felt. To fill this gap this course has been started at IBA.
Now the real need is that this course should be offered as an elective in
all BBA/MBA programs. IBA is also planning to start a special Management
Development Program on Islamic Finance & Banking for the Industry.
