I am younger now,
and I am thinking how on TV they always show you country folk
with stalks of wheat sticking out of their mouths,
but they don't say why
and on the day my brother and I tried it
finding the secret sweetness hidden
in the base of a tender green wheatstalk,
we spent hours in the fields
taking all we could.
