| Its been a long, long time since Oasis released Definitely Maybe all those years ago. However following on from some harsh criticism from some aspects of the media on recent albums Standing on The Shoulder of Giants and Heathen Chemistry, Oasis released Dont Believe the Truth. Right from the moment Lyla came bellowing from the speakers, it would be a guaranteed chart success. But theres more to this album than a catchy single or two.
But where does this album differ from Oasis previous offerings? Well, most interestingly Dont Believe the Truth sees a writing contribution from Liam with Love Like a Bomb. In fact, all the members of the band have made a written contribution to the new album. Playing the drums on this album is Zak Starkey, son of former Beatle Ringo. Oasis hit hard with this album. The opening track Turn up the Sun is an excellent start to the album its not a big-hitting anthem, more of a softer intro to ease you in. In fact Id go as far to say its Dont Believe the Truths equivalent to Hello. While some of the band members may have been and gone, the current line-up is in my opinion the strongest it has ever been. I say this because once you look at the written credits to see whos written which song, you might be surprised. Or you can go one step better if you purchase the limited edition with a DVD explaining each track. Nearly everyone can relate to Oasis and they came up with the lyric There Are Many Things That I Would Like To Say To You, But I Dont Know How words and thoughts expressed by most adolescents. Oasis have a huge back-catalogue of B-Side tracks that would make it onto most bands albums and are even stronger than some bands A-sides. Included in that list are a few Beatles covers. Arguably, you could put this up there as Oasis finest work. Some might say thats more than over-hyping, but the blend of Dont Believe the Truth is an excellent balance. After hearing some of the tracks that have failed to make it on to other Oasis albums, you think to yourself What missed out on this album? and the answer simply is that surely it cant match what has made it onto the album. Mind you, if youd have said that on some of their other albums you would be wrong. Give it a listen for yourself and see if you agree. Gallaghers, Archer, Bell, Starkey gentlemen take a bow. |
